Put up shouldn't even come into play when selling to groney. He takes a green skinned coon splits It up the middle and pins It down on the fleshing table then zip ties It in place on a wire form to dry.

Where would we be without Groenwold and other fur buyers who have their own markets and connections stepping up and expanding their fur buying at this time after the fall of NAFA?

Well said. 30 yrs. ago there were 6-7 buyers within a 30 min. drive from my place. Now there are 0.
Pretty much FHA or Groney.

According to most people on here they would be sitting on the couch, eating junk food , and watching Fox News.

And I wonder why that Is. Here's why.
On wood you can make a 40 coon a 40 inch coon but on wire it becomes a 36" coon. That will down grade you a size In grade and that will cost you money.

I'll bet if you have several hundred coyotes Groeny would come to your house if you asked and were serious about selling your furs.... I've had several buyer and even FHA stop at my house along their route all I had to do was ask....

I have sold to them a few times, there is always a line of people and not much time, so they can make there next stop, most people just hand them in the window and take their offer myself included. It's just like a fast food joint if there is a lot of people, but what can they do if they have to be in the next town at a certain time?

So do you think Groney is selling a 36" and a 40" coon for the same amount? I don't, why would he? I am sure he would want the larger size. Wire gives a more uniform shape. If you take 100 people putting up coon on wood there are 50 different shaped stretchers.

Well MJM If groney Is tanning these hides like some are saying and then selling them as dressed goods those 36" coon will dress out bigger then that 36".

Every wire coon stretcher I have ever seen were to wide In the nose and head and shoulder area and way to wide at the half way point. And what does that do to a coon hide or for that matter any other hide It makes that hide shorter. Sure you may have the same square Inches but I have yet to see a square Inch grade on coon. IT's the length In Inches that determines the size grade. So wood gives the trapper a better grade which should give him more money In the real world.

I have looked at lots of wood forms and for the most part they are pretty standard In size.

What! OK when I say wood stretcher I don't mean a 2x4 or 2x6 or a old piece of barn siding, good grief! I mean an actual auction grade uniform basswood stretcher the sizes and shapes are clearly defined for profile in the old NAFA fur manual... Oh my lord I've seen some stuff med bobcat put on fox boards to make the nose pointed to get extra length and make an xl guess what you med grade... Wire conforms to the animal the board makes the animal conform to it making the furs completely uniform and stretched were they need to be stretched ie the pleats not the window. There is only one board size for each animal and or grade of said animal, east west north south all the same none of this regional stuff cuz that's how ol trapper duff did it 50 yrs ago... The NAFA fur manual is a very good resource and I encourage anyone who would like the most from their fur to read it like the bible.

Sold lots of coon to them that had been stretched on wood with no issue. I agree with dirt. LLL

I put everything up on wood and I asked Groenwald if the put up was to his liking or if he wanted something done differently. He told me to keep.doing what I was doing, looked good to him.

Wish I had more time to trap....

A few years ago I had a small bunch of mink, probably 50 or so , I said what the heck send them to Groeny and the auction , I had split the piles 50/50 with those going to auction, tried to keep the sizes and condition/primeness, I even graded them on a on a sheet I kept, Groeny guys called gave me a price, I haggled a bit on the better ones and said mail the check. in the end minus the commission, the $8 dollars to ship them Spee Dee to Groeny, Groeny beat the auction average by $0.25 but I did get a top lot letter LOL

My opinion good fur will sell wherever you sell it, my dad was a fur buyer when I was a kid and I am sure the money was made on the low grade fur, more margin on lower end fur than on the good stuff, plus it did not cost as much to buy LOL
