Friend of my son shot this deer on our opening weekend of gun deer season in county just south of here. They said the deer was a hermaphrodite? I didn't see the deer so have no idea if it actually had both male and female parts? or if it was a doe with antlers. They said hermaphrodite and these guys have shot plenty of deer. I have no reason to doubt them. I know I once caught what I thought was big male coon. Wasn't until I it was skinning it realized it had both parts..Of course didn't think to run get a camera and take pictures. So leaves me open to the yea-right crowd.. Either way this is an interesting deer and biggest this young man has ever shot. Anyone ever manage to save a mount like that with the velvet on? Mac

I was always told that does with antlers rarely shed the velvet. I'm not sure about actually shedding the antlers though.
The deer pens at Penn State had a doe with antlers that was huge. Big bodied, big antlered deer.
I wonder if the hermaphrodite deer could breed???

My understanding is they can do a mount with the actual velvet (extra couple hundred $) by freeze drying it. Other than that if you don't want to spend the extra$ they use flocking. Not sure if its due to social media and everybody posting bout it but it seems like alot more of them herma deer have been harvested this year.

About 15 years ago a local kid brought me a decent 8 point to mount it didn't have any velvet on it and had the body of a buck but female sex organs. It was unusual enough it made the paper.

I shot a big 6 x 6 in velvet on Nov 5th in the late 80's. It's nuts were only the size of your thumb nail. I would assume that the smaller testicles had something to do with it.
