I have a Kimber Pro CDP II and a Springfield Armory compact, both in .45 ACP both very reliable pistols.
Most everyday I carry a Sig 938 in 9MM.
In my opinion you can carry a 45 but you really have to want to.
I really like the 1911 platform and the little Sig is close to it. Never had
to use it and hope to keep it that way.

Nice outfit Vatarpper. Mr. Browning got it right the first time around. A few little tweeks sure did not hurt anything.

Springfield Armory GI 1911 and Springfield Armory SDS compact 3.3 in .45acp. With a good pancake holster it's not hard to hide.

I've never really understood the idea of letting literally the entire world know what firearms you possess.

I guess I'm a strange one. I've never liked the 1911 platform. Reason being, I've never liked safeties.
I started on revolvers and learned to point and pull the trigger. This is why I prefer a da/sa with a decocker. I've never been a fan of striker fired pistols either, don't even own one. However, I will be buying a Springfield Armory "Hellcat".

Colt Gold Cup in Colt Guard finish thought I will admit that I find myself carrying the S&W Shield 45 more and more. It's a lot lighter and less obtrusive, just as accurate 15 yards and in, can hold its own to 25 in a hurry up situation. Granted the Smith is not a target gun but it's definitely more than adequate. My load of choice is my handload using the Sierra 230 grain JHP, 231 powder, and a Federal standard primer. I am also starting to like the small primer Blazer brass.

I purchased a Ruger LC380Ca awhile back, w/safety. I don't remember the reason, but I did.

With the striker system its not great at quick shots, even with the extended little finger control.

I have an older .45 acp. in a E.A.A. Witness-P. Its much more efficient to shoot. But heavier.

The Springfield XDs in .45 acp. is good.

Why do you carry with FMJ's?
That is a bad idea......

I'm also interested in the rationale behind choosing hardball, fmj ammo. Perhaps it is the most reliable to feed and fire?

I found this one in the ashes of a shed I burned. The ammo exploded in the magazine. It was super rusty and the action was frozen open about 1/2'' where you see it in the top picture. I tossed it in a bucket of used oil for 2 years - forgot about it until one day when I dumped out the oil and found it again. I ran electrolysis on it for about 30 days and it worked. I got all new springs and a barrel and it's now my truck gun. Shoots great. The sights are accurate but hard see. I use 180 grain god dot hollow points in a mild load in it. When it's not in my truck it's under my pillow. It looks rough but works like it should. It's a GI gun someone brought home. Says Model of 1911 US ARMY on the side of it.
