John, you'd do fine a ridin' . And you would have three points of contact .... two feet and your bum. Hands free . All you need is one of those tall drafts or warmblood types that are 17 hands - six feet at the top of the shoulder. With your height you would need a tall one . .you feel like you're on top of the world. Jaclyn, what a pleasant face your horse has ! That straight profile, tall upright set neck , ears ,and his feet in the photo looks like he is in gait , a fast trot , ready to break into a run... Walker ? Or Saddlebred ...maybe a Kentucky Mountain Gaiter. Those pacer and gaited horses have become very popular over the years, smooth and fast covering ground. Even an Appaloosa that has the uncommon natural Indian Shuffle is very nice. His higher tail set reminds me also of possible Arabian cross , though walkers also can have that same build. I like to guess So many mix and matches nowadays , it's a challenge . I see exactly what you mean in needing contact to check speed , your inside rein in check , which also bends him slightly into the target as you go straight, , helping your aim . Same principal with all of them who anticipate speed and want to get on with it ! Love that attitude. Yezzum, a loose jaw shank , perfect for direct reining , just enough grab in contact to keep them light on the forehand. Know what you mean on grouse flushing ! I have done that unintentionally , too ! Lots of fun, Jaclyn . What in the all natural organic heck just happened!?!?

(This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) of a trail horse. Won’t stop til the job is done.

Is that a Mongolian Horse bow? Horn, or fiberglass?
Welcome aboard Jaclyn. Mongolian, all wood! Sounds like a nice bow. Kudo's to you. I need to keep my feet on the ground, plus my longbow wouldn't work real well from horseback.A well trained horse to let you shoot like that!

John, you fit just fine in the western life without the organic stuff ..cant figure why some like ribbing you so much ... BTW, I meant a 19 hand horse for you -not 17. Don't know why I had 17 in mind . Jaclyn , you will like to see Trapstickman's experiences when he shares them ...he brings out the best in the critters he runs into ! One of my faves is his communication with a rather hostile swarm of hornets He's the skinny guy in the coon hat holding up the sign in the above post. A nice horse , no doubt fun . The energetic ones are my best rides . Glad I guessed close ! You take very good care of him, too.

Welcome to the site and thank you for the pics of your horse, as I was going to ask for horse and gun pics.
You are right on the Arab blood in your pony. The ears are Arab. Feet look like something that has been plodding around in the shale for a few generations. The octane I never liked, but once they make you family, they follow you around like a dog. Horse pictures and adventures are always welcome. Love it. Thank you! Not hoping to do a horse takeover on this site, but I do feel we do the best hunting together. Thank you to all that have welcomed me. And even those that have not welcomed me. I feel that is delightfully appropriate for trapper tradition. I will be here, creeping on your posts to learn more, until USMC47 can take me out and finish some of my basics. Vaya con dios! Lever Action Jaclyn
