I think this is the sign of the time IF you elect a Democrat as Gov. JMO
To Old U.S. Army 60-63 SGT.

I agree with rex123. Unfortunately we have an outdoorsmen group here in KY that is as anti-trapping as the animal rights crowd. They are a constant thorn in the side of intelligent, scientific equipment and regulations that make wildlife management better for EVERYONE, not just trappers. These folk are about their interest and have used the current "critters are cuddly" tactic to put the kibosh on regulation changes that would help trappers and in turn would increase the usability and satisfaction of other outdoor enthusiasts. I haven't confirmation on my suspicions but it does fit this groups M.O. We as trappers in this state need to be cautious and intelligent about the image we put forth to the public and on public forums, like this fine establishment. We don't need pictures or quotes that can be used to misrepresent us to the uneducated or ill-informed public. What trappers consider part of the job sometimes can be misconstrued by others who don't know, especially when the narrative is being controlled by anti's. Example: what does dancing look like to a deaf person. As folks get farther removed from how things really work, i.e., butchering their own meat, removing unwanted pests, etc., our jobs as wildlife managers takes on the extra aspect as educators to the uneducated. The days of even farmers understanding about carrying capacity application applies to wildlife as well as livestock, is coming to an end. Everyone has grown up with the "Disney" mentality for so long, its the norm and has penetrated all walks of life. We have the responsibility of being our own champion or our own executioner. Hope everyone has dry dirt, tight chains, and not enough stretchers. Thanks.

I’m unable to determine if the intent is not for all manufactured traps and not just bodygrips, we have been trying to contact the lady that pre filed it with no return reply so far. She did not come up with this on her own. Someone is involved that doesn’t want their name on it in my opinion. It is sad when one or two people try to do an end run around the KDFWR after basically ignoring their suggestion to help trappers and landowners. This is happening in other areas of wildlife management in our state, crossbow hunting, hunter education not just trapping, but in this case it is as stated above. This has been slowly festering for several years up there. With these tactics the professional wildlife managers, KDFWR, and the KDFWR Commission are ever so slowly being rendered irrelevant. Some good wildlife management people are leaving. We’re on the cusp, if something doesn’t turn around, of seeing ALL wildlife management as we’ve known it be run by the tourism cabinet. I wonder if other states have seen similar? The other group, and I say group but it’s really just a handful that’s the problem, is certainly not beloved by the antis and they’re introducing tactics that will bite them in 10 years or so when other players enter the picture. They are very short sighted, self serving individuals. There is quite a bit of talk about doing something about night time trespassing already. Lots of landowners and deer leases are sick of it. They should be concerned with their own public image instead of ours. I’m as conservative as you can get but one thing I’ve learned in the last few years that not everyone with an ‘R’ is necessarily a good honest person. Oddly, I’m hoping the New Democrat governor will make some needed changes up there. We’ll see. It could go from bad to worse. There’s some slimy goings on in Kentucky politics.

I hope my fellow KY trappers are being diligent about contacting their state senators and representatives about this issue. Far too many states has lost equipment usage and rights altogether to rest on the old adage "it can't happen here". Our state is not immune to the influx of non-rural and liberal people who have moved from states that have multiple large cities and are less agricultural than KY. In my own experience there has been an increase of urbanite folk who have moved to our state looking for "Mayberry". Unfortunately they bring with them the ideas and misconstrued attitudes toward farming and animals, basically they have little to no clue about how things actually work. These are the kind of people that push the AR agenda and try to rationalize ALL animals are like the alpacas they're raising in a two acre pen. Even the alpacas don't always fit their dialogue. Some of my fellow Kentuckians live by the misbelief that all is well in our state because "old Bob" down the road is a good ole boy and he'd never vote against trapping. The "old Bob" 's of this world are dying off and are being replaced by urban oriented "Robert", who has been educated in an atmosphere that doesn't include hunting and trapping and isn't real keen on knowing the where, how, and why of what he consumes. Complaining about an issue without action never accomplishes anything for the complainer, it only serves those who we're complaining about. Please contact your state senator and representative and let them know that bill request 492 isn't serving the state of KY for the best. There's just too much for us to lose to gamble on inaction.
