Dirt, The only time that will happen is in a down market. If there is a market the buyers will pay for fur.

I think it happens any time we don't see any bidding and then there is 90 to 100% sales in the PT room right after the sale.

If there is no bidding there is no demand or market for it. How many heavy coyotes have you seen in the last few years that go no bid? There is a demand or market for them. I will bet any heavy coyotes that went to the private treaty room sold well and at market value. If there is no market and no one buys the fur, yes it may sell cheap in the PT room. Both Auction houses were there to sell fur, not for long term storage hoping the market improves. How many year were there between the last two fur booms?

Am I the only guy that remembers arrest warrants being issued a few years ago over price fixing? That the auction moved to Canada because it was the U.S. issuing warrants? I am amazed that anyone is naive enough to think there isn't all kinds of underhanded stuff going on. There is who knows how much money in bad checks now and no arrests for that either. Its not really that much different than reading tracks in the snow.

I'll say it slowly, if there is no market( meaning nobody wants them ) then why do they want them in the PT room. Because they don't have to bid there. If there really was no market, they would not buy them period. You have an Auction to determine market value. A buyer is not going to pay any more than he has to.

I remember Danny.

Anybody else find the irony in the fact that NAFA started as HBC and strong-armed everybody out of the fur market a few hundred years ago but now they've the ones snuffed out from their own actions and lack of interest?

No I don't think it is ironic it can happen when you lose sight of what your real purpose is or was. There is a huge difference between being a brokering agent to help producers find profitable markets for their products and also being involved in financing their production etc. etc. Getting involved vertically within a high risk and fad swinging business without having a good assets behind the investments is not where they should have entered into.

Also referencing the driving out of business other firms, that many times can lead to not paying good sense or better business management. Also we need to remember that "pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered"
