In 2014 I had a severe injury to my back crushing 2 lower vertebra. The neurosurgeon said I needed to have a 2 level fusion to repair it. BUT the all knowing insurance co said no just one. The Dr told me he would be back in there fixing the other one in 2 years. Fortunately I have suffered and milked it along trying to avoid getting cut on. I've had some good days and some really bad days. But helping to decorate the tree this past Saturday May have finished me off. Leg numb, severe pain sitting standing or lying down. Had to look for my pain meds and they won't even touch the pain. So off to see the surgeon again tomorrow. I'm sure MRI then fight with the insurance. Wanted to set a few Dp's for some buddies to help with corn feeder bandits. But if it hurts to get up to eat won't be going to any feeders ...

Thanks guys.
I have really had to adjust my activities since the first one. (but wife says still act like a teenager) Used to put the climbing stand on my back and never looked back. Would set dirt hole or pocket sets and wade thru creeks not worrying about falling. Now don't set anything but dps or occasional road side pocket set because of all you need to carry. Not much trapping around here you can drive up to. Plus bending long enough to make a dirt hole brought tears to my eyes.

But I will manage . My philosphy is "you never have to look far to find someone in worst shape than yourself"

Good luck to you. I have 8 levels fused spread over 4 surgeries. 2 years ago, the surgeon wanted to fuse the rest of my spine. I've been struggling along, holding off as long as possible. The sad part is all this has not brought me any pain relief. No pain meds and over the counter stuff is a waste of time. I hope you get relief.

jbyrd63, My insurance companies great staff doctor denied a PET scan twice. Two doctors at Mayo clinic prescribed it twice after detecting cancer in a lymph node in my pelvic area using a MRI. They needed the PET scan to see if the cancer has spread. I don't know if you are familiar with Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota but they are considered to be some of the best doctors in the world. I called my insurance company 3 times and got nothing but a run around. I've been dealing with cancer for three and a half years and it keeps reoccurring. The insurance company said the PET scan was not medically necessary. They never said it wasn't covered in my policy.
A friend of mine recommend that I call the state insurance commission here in South Dakota. I sent copies of all my insurance denials and my doctors prescription plus a letter from my Mayo Clinic doctor describing in detail why I needed this scan to possibly save my life and they were just giving me the run around. I sent everything I had to the insurance commission too.
I get my health insurance thru a group policy where I retired from. I got ahold of the benefit company that handles the health and life insurance for our group. I sent a copy of all the same stuff to them also.
The representatives from the state agency and the benefit company logged complaints and both were very critical of the insurance company dragging their feet when a persons life is at stake.
In less than 48 hours the insurance reversed their denial.
Insurance companies paid doctors make decisions that are in their companies best financial interest, consideration for our health care is secondary at best.
You might check and see if your state has an insurance commission.
Its crazy for insurance company doctors to override the doctors who are examining and treating you.
Just wanted to share my experience. By the way I get my scan on the 13th of December. The down side is that I have lost 6 weeks of precious time when I should have been getting the scan and treatments.
Best of luck my friend and hope we both get back on the trapline soon.

I have good days and bad days with my back, but every day above the ground is a good one regardless.

I hope you find acceptable relief.

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.

I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.

Best Regards,

JT

I got myself a seniors' GPS.

Well home from Dr. and no surgery just yet . Insurance requires another round of back injections before they even will do another MRI. Can't get one until DEC 30 th !! Only way to get anything done faster is to check into the hospital thru the ER and then they will do the MRI right then .... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Geez what has the medical world come to....
