As you can see our local soybean markets are the same. China bought way ahead to get a head of the tariffs and that drove prices up and now if trade bills don't evolve they can wait on the beans. What they are buying is more dairy as Australia is really burning up and China is short of protein as they have kille 100 million hogs to try to stop the spread of the African swine Fever.
I don't have much more info at this time. We got 3-5 inches of really wet rain Sunday and about .5 to .75 inches of rain the night before. Fields are really wet again and we have beans that are now wet, muddy and too much snow to combine. Lot of corn yet to combine as well. The discussion about not doing a trade deal with China now until after the next election will hurt prices. Even with much lower yields the prices are not moving because exports are either curtailed or very uncertain.
I spent two hours today at a conference with two panels of 4 members each. Almost all dairy related but 5 farmers and 3 industry leaders talking about our dairy situation, past, present and future. Broad spectrum of farm sizes, types etc. The really big issue that was driven home by this group that has been sort of held under the table is how really short the forage supply in the nation is and will be and how expensive it will get this spring when inventories are drained. Lots of shortages not just in the Mid West but west, south etc. as well. Average quality heifer hay around here is now hitting about $200 per ton if you can find it and if the seller wants to wait 3-4 months to get more.

So is there a way to link the cattle forage market to the muskrat and bobcat market? That is the million dollar question!

There was a question regarding how can we link fur or some fur to other commodities and yes the overall correlation is higher than many would like to believe. The one that is watched the most is oil-corn worldwide. These two are tied a lot to overall world economic economic health apart from specific political situations such as tariffs, trade issues or OPEC deciding to increase or decrease production etc.
From a fur aspect if and it is true that the world economy is slowing then furs like rats, coon, mink etc. that have world markets may very well drop and since 2014 they have. Coyotes right now have a limited market by a few companies into market not driven by world economic conditions. With China the major player in almost all fur other than the current yote market, they indeed impact the usage and distribution of most other fur.

Are we in a cycle based on some economic easing and huge production increases based on a couple years of high profits or are we in a major fashion change worldwide that may have a much longer and severe down turn for much of the fur industry, ranched or wild? I feel that there will always be a select wild fur market as there always has been it just is not enough numbers used to utilize a lot of fur.
