On NPR program today, Hear and Now, a speaker spoke favorably about natural fur vs faux fur. Imagine that. The speaker said the synthetic material faux fur is made of requires one thousand years to decompose. She told how many hundreds of tons of clothing go into landfills each year, much of which is made of synthetic fibers.

NPR gives more of the entire story of the items they cover then the other news sources. They lean to the left, but they give listeners enough info to make up their own minds.

Most of the save the planet folks would be on our side if we could get them to understand the impact that non renewable and non biodegradable synthetics are. And also how much pollution is generated producing the synthetics. Real fur is Green, environmentally friendly, renewable and sustainable. What is so hard to understand?

Yup.... But for some reason many of us deride the same demographics that would pay good many for your products- gays, minorities & greenies.

Ok, so here is the question that actually matters. How do we market to these markets?
I keep thinking that we could try and market fur like wine, or veggies at the farmers market. Tell the story, and tie it back to the land, nature, and the people that harvest it. Seems perfect for the right market!

Marketing is a ton of work. I'm not trying to discourage anyone but that's the bottom line.

To me, this marketing is the very thing our national organizations should be involved with right along with education. In this case, education and marketing are really one and the same. We need to be making just as much noise as those who would put us out of business. The big difference is that we have facts on our side but it is worthless in combating the emotion and rhetoric if we do not get it out there.

I've always wondered about all the chemicals used and fumes given off that it takes to make synthetic fur.

NPR did a story 2 years ago about real fur being a renewable resource and that fur has been harvested for hundreds of years and still on the planet also there was nothing as warm as real fur. They also did a short take on trappers gathering fur vs the federal government killing predators using tax money vs putting money in a rural persons pocket. California should turn on the radio of coarse they produce a lot of oil for plastic and fake fur, not faux fur, fake fur lets call it what it is!

This makes so much sense that it seems impossible for the people of California to disagree, yet somehow they
still do. It is just mind boggling.

I'm assuming that was directed at me. Um hardly a SJW. IM about bottom line. Those three demographics have tremendous purchasing power and two of them already lean towards fur fashion so it would be smart to our oocket books to make ourselves (producers) and our products more appealing to them.

If you've got time, could you track that segment down and share it?

Who are the "many" are you talking about that "deride" minorities?

As for "gays & greenies", I will "deride" ridiculousness wherever I encounter it. I'm not going to suck up to freaks and fools on the very slim chance they will buy more fur products, or for any other reason. And if you think we, as trappers, should suck up to "gays & greenies" and treat them like normal, rational people, that, by definition, might make you a social justice warrior.

Eh...wot?
