Can you guys give some advise on what fur combs you use? Before skinning to remove burs,, dirt blood, ect and then after it's put up to present to the buyer.
Thanks Griz

I like to use the more courser/stiffer one before I skin if there's not alot of sgaebrush in it. After it's dry I like to use the thinner one (the one from walmart for normal pets) to help fluff & use some borax to get the white portions to really pop and to get any left over blood stains out.

The courser one, is it something that you bought at Wallmart too or is it a fur comb that is sold at one of the supply house's?
Thanks Griz

I think I paid about $5 a piece for my coarse combs from a local farm store. Might check before you spend double +S.H. at a supply house. And if you hit the deep tangled burr with a shot of WD-40 it makes combing them out easier

I just use a dog grooming comb I got at Rural King.
Any cockel burs I just work out with my fingers.
Mane and Tail horse spray works well too.

easy burr remover is a eating fork, slide tines under the burr and lift it out. saves some finger wear. and as far as a rough fur comb i get them at the animal grooming section at the farm store.

Mane and tail works well as does WD-40 on removing burrs fleet or tractor supply or farmers union will have horse combs that will work for what you need . On most burrs take it easy and slow so you don't mess up the fur to much I normally will brush out the burrs after skinning and put the pelt on newspapers so if they break up the seeds don't get scattered all over the place when done throw out the paper and burrs all together or burn it in the wood stove.

For finish brushing any good pet comb / brush will work .

I have used, I think every type from trapping supply places but this one is by far better than any of them....

I use a straight tooth comb for burdocks and combing before skun'n.

Darn burdocks-
