So this morning I woke up to a fresh inch of snow. I was excited to see what walked past my traps finally. I get to my set area and I had a coyote walk 2-3 feet from my dirt hole then 3 feet from my flat set. Judging by the tracks he never broke stride to look at eaither of my sets. Wind was perfect for it also. I set these traps 3 days ago.

With that being said it is a yearly trend if trap in November/December I don’t do well. I’ll catch all the junk first then pick up a fox or 2 if I’m lucky. But I’ll go set traps in the same exact spots using the same exact lure in January/February and do pretty well.

Example last year I set a farm for 3 weeks in November caught 0 fox. Pulled traps and reset and rebaited first week of January and caught 7 in 2 weeks.

I mix up sets with baits glad lures and curiosity lures nothing loud. And I only ever use a half a pea size amount of lure and hardly ever relure.

Think it’s just the over abundant amount of food keeping them not interested but you would think gland lure and urine would get them to stop and check it out

I would try some beaver castor, or some tarsal gland hair from a deer, or some scat with a shot of urine right in the travel way. Sounds like they are not hungry so curiosity is what will get them.

Gland lures don't shine in the fall. Save em for late winter.

If your attractants aren't attracting them then the I would trying some others. Try some fresh deer, maybe trap some mice and try those. Maybe a different brand of lures.

The italicized words are the problem.

Try a deep dirthole with a big gob of a well-known, commercially-made bait. I would also relure at least weekly. When I trap I don't have the time or talent to catch the odd sniffers. Maybe lay off the lures and try to get feet shuffling at a dirthole with plenty of bait.

My dirt holes are usually as deep as I can go. I will try filling them up with a good bait. I always use sparingly for some reason thanks

Usually use about a tablespoon worth of commercial bait at a set

PARick, are the tracks you saw in a place you can bed a trap (i.e not in a road)? If you can, I’d bed some blind sets in right where he is leaving tracks. Especially in your choke points. All great points from others as well, just trying to give an additional option. It sounds like Mr. Yote is telling you right where he is.

The exact location them tracks were is a rock road so unfortunately I cannot set it. I appreciate the advice. I just get frustrated when they walk right past it and not take a look see
