Was talking with the wife the other day, about old medicine home remedies and such. She say I have Moms old book here that she got from dad's mom years ago. My mother inlaw was schooled and worked as a nurse her whole life. She was given the book when her mother inlaw passed..I didn't know the wife had the book so told her dig it out I want see it..Turns out it's a actually not a medical book like she thought but a old Cyclopedia.
I haven't really read much yet mostly flipped threw it..This thing has everything from how to cook a pork roast, identify medical plants, and how to learn/teach Speed Business Writing which is Cursive if I read it right? I'm guessing if you owned this book back in day and were fairly smart. Could probably teach in an old one room school..
I have no idea how to date the book? On one of front pages it says

I think it's pretty cool and for sure going to browse threw read some things.

My Gramma taught school in a one room school. 1st-8th grade. She was certified about 1921. She had lived with family in town, Canon City, to attend high school. In order to teach elementary school she took a 6 week course at the State Teachers College in Greeley CO. (University of Northern Colorado today) , the summer she graduated high school. It took 2 years for a license to teach high school courses.

I don't know anything about your book Mark but Gramma taught me to read, add, and subtract before I started school. She used some of her old school textbooks. I never saw that one before. Its pretty cool.

My ma had the same book, she revived it as a wedding present from my grandma

Lots of info in it that is handy from a practical standpoint of running and keeping a house

Sadly it was lost when the house burned down

That's an awesome book!

I love old books and I have quite a collection of outdoor and adventure books including mountain man stuff.

This set of first edition Teddy Roosevelt books full collection from 1906-1910 is worth about $1200 and was seriously pulled from a dumpster and given to me by my daughter! Good thing she knows books too!

Like I said I haven't looked in detail yet. But this book has how to run a house hold, do your laundry, run a business, do the ledgers for it..Every day living things pretty much stuff you would thing most people just know.
Lot of what I glanced over in this book. Is stuff should be taught to a lot of the folks I ran into when was still working at FD..Basic simple stuff about how to live take care your self.
