What a shame. I used to live just a couple miles from there. Have they named the shooter?

Nelson, Pa is redneck central.

I used to work for the Army Corp of Engineers at Cowanesque Lake as a Park Ranger in 1983-84.

When I was there, those people were still ticked off that the Federal Gubmint

moved the whole town to a hillside and flooded the valley

to form Cowanesque Flood Control Lake after the 1972 Hurricane Agnes flood.

The rednecked hillbillies from Nelson, Elkland, Tioga,

and Lawrenceville were right out of "Deliverance"

and gave us a lot of grief, and there was a rifle & shotgun

in the cab back window of every pickup truck we came in contact with.

If I close my eyes, I can still hear the banjo music !!!! laugh

People are completely loosing it. It's hard to imagine an easy time for the kids and grand-kids.

We have incredible technology and instantaneous communications and have probably never been so divided in our history.

I never thought I'd live to see these The Divided States of America.

Prayers for those involved and affected. Police are not being payed enough to do what they have to do.

I wouldn't take that job ever.....it's freaking sad!

JT

Keep your boots dry and your powder too.

I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.

Best Regards,

JT

I lived there for five years a couple years after you left. I used to help the high school sportsman's club build fish structures. wood duck boxes, and blue bird houses.

There were some real good people in the Elkland area but there were some real pieces of work in the area too. Some had boats that were worth twice what their trailer was. And even in the late eighties, there were quite a few in Nelson who still hated the Corp of Eng. because of having to move when the lake was built. I would have thought things had gotten better by now.

I tremendously dislike the Corps of Engineers too. Have you ever tried to trap below one of their play toy dams? Always jacking with the water, almost an everyday ordeal. They could have got me killed a couple of times. Once I was checking mink traps on an island, had walked the ice to get there, and all of a sudden I hear ice breaking. Look and see they had increased the flow and water was running over the ice , had to run for it, and by the grace of God I made it, but it was hairy! Oh yeah, I just live them!

This is possibly one of the best comments I have ever seen anywhere, because it is right on the money.
I've noticed this too - how divided people have come, and truth be told many do not even know why.

I mean, you get people hollering at each other disagreeing while agreeing at the same time, you can't make this kind of stuff up.

I think a lot has to do with the technology we have today, because anything can be found anywhere now - which also means that any opinion about anything can be found anywhere.

I just bought a 2002 Monte Carlo SS that has the checkered flags on the sides.
It came home last night.
I promptly broke the ignition switch as I had it in neutral when I took the key out - no, when I forced the key out.

A quick internet search showed everything from the vehicle is garbage it will never run again it needs to be junked right away to you bring it to a dealer get this this and this done and you are set for life.

It's really sad how it has come to this.

We got something going on out here which is terrible too - but on a different level - regarding a welfare check: https://valley.newhavenindependent....icide_investigation_continue_in_ansonia/

I have no idea how these police officers do it.... the job must be so stressful - damned if you do, and damned if you don't... and the poor town - people want answers, and they are mad because they are not getting any.

I'm just reading about what happened in Nelson PA now... inbred or not - that man had no right to open up on the State Police who identified themselves

https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2019-12-10/pennsylvania-state-police-trooper-shot-on-duty

Very sad...........

The next 20 years will be interesting with generations lacking the ability to understand what life is about and how to deal with it.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I just read an update that the barricaded guy was shot and killed by troopers early this morning and that both troopers originally injured are okay.

Ha Ha !!

You knew "MR." Kepple ?

He was a piece of work.

Perfect example of a federal government employee

who wasn't even qualified to clean the toilets

but was a top supervisor.

He drove a lot of good people to seek other employment

rather than continue to work under him.
