Last night I watched a Musk Ox hunt on the Pursuit Channel. Then later on Life Below Zero Chip Hailstone shot one with a muzzleloader. I wondered what the mean of a Musk Ox tastes like? Is it comparable to moose, caribou, bear, etc? Or, does it have a flavor of it's own?

Got a gift from my brother. It was 3 AA batteries with a note that said, Gift Not Included.

Much better than any other wild meat with the exception of ruffed grouse & bison, IMO

Ive never eaten it but I've heard others say much the same thing that Ken says here....my only comment is ruffed grouse and bison are very low on my list of edible wild game, so I probably wouldn't compare muskox with those species! August caribou (the mountain variety) and ptarmigan are tops in my opinion! Early moose is very good too.

Some people claim sheep to be good table fare as far as wild meat goes.
I believe muskox is related to the sheep family,I havent tried either, but for me,its pretty hard to beat moosemeat.

From 2006 to 2012 my family harvested a musk ox every winter. By far our favorite. Better than Bison.
Wish we still could get some. We lived in Nome those years.

The lottery tag system was dropped for bison a few years ago here in Yukon so we can take one every year. I will gladly trade two pounds of bison for one pound of either August moose or caribou any day. I've taken 5 now, ranging from big bulls to two year old cows and all have been tough. Even the hamburger on the bull was tough!

My buddy in Brevig got one last winter. He couldnt give the meat away, no one would take it. He didnt get it, said it was amazing. He gave me about 10 lbs, my wife cooked it and we were a litle nervous to eat it based on other peoples words. It was amazing! Probably a top 3 meat for me, better then tasteless store beef for sure!

Arent you in Dawson Yukon254? 2 hour ride down the Dempster Highway and Porcupine caribou to galore around Eagle Plains to the NWT border. Finally not wintering in Alaska, for a change.

Muskox meat is very good the fat is marbled in the meat so it is also healthier for you. a lot of people cant get past the musky smell though so they don't like to eat it.

Have always shot mature bulls. Sold the horns and hide, ate the meat. Last one we got in 2012 was a cow. Fat is sweet tasting almost. Marbled meat like others have said. Makes great burger. Awesome steaks. Nothing else I've had as far as wild game goes compares.
