New plan between the wet, snow, ice and blowing I ordered a metal detector to keep my sets working I figure I can locate them shovel out the area and reset them. Cabela's had one for $30 off with free shipping and I used $18.00 in points so it was about $90. Anybody else use one on the line?

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

How far away will it detect a trap? Do you have to be directly on top?

A foot or two depending on what sensitivity it is set at. That has been my experience. Comes in handy after a snowstorm.

dahlgren i can tell you it is a real time saver when snow covers everything and you only know with a few feet where your trap is. or you get a heavy rain and not certain exactly where. we all been there. you dont need an expensive one. a cheap one will bark at steel just fine. remove the batteries when your not using it and they last for years. mine has to be close to 20 years old. lives in a closet except for when weather dictates i need it

I have a Garrett Ace 350 that NEVER leaves my trapping truck-mostly used to find plowed up traps and sometimes snow covered-absolutely invaluable!!! Just as important as a rifle, binocs, etc. that also never leave the trapping truck....

Used one last year my buddy had it worked great just seems to be a time saver getting the sets up and running again. With ice under the snow waiting is not a option really it could be weeks before it warms up.

Love mine, has saved me a bunch of time, especially finding those flat sets! Have finally gotten a little smarter over the years and have learned not to set so close to those fence lines!

Metal detector worked great had traps under ice and snow some took a while to locate them some stuck out more and located them quickly. Detector was easy to work I was impressed by it.

Froze in sets were trampled with tracks way more tracks on then last season.

Find the trap, find the trap Brandy, find the trap Lacy, my dogs nose has helped me so many times, first time Brandy found one I asked her to, she was about 8 weeks old, them Dorn dogs, hard to beat them
I remember one fall in wy the rancher graded the trail, I couldn't find the two traps there, asked Brandy, find the trap, find the trap, she started sniffing around and sniffed the pile of dirt about 30' away, the two traps were there, idk if some lure was in with the traps or if she smelled the trap wax

Been redoing traps the last few checks detector saves time, only 1 place they pulled a fence out that gave me trouble I just added new traps and moved on. Another place a pond formed over those 2 sets again added traps closer to the fence line. Way to frozen over to dig out without doing damage to them.

Not thrilled with the blending with the snow and no cover dirt just using what I can and every badger mound that pops out of the snow when the sun hits it. The mounds are the first place a guy can blend a set and the first place you can get dry dirt from being exposed to wind and sunlights.

Always look for places where they moved out bale stacks a good place to find clear ground a easy blend for setting.
