Thanks Woodsloafer72, actually the D Lite is next on my list, I like the looks of that lantern. It will be a while before I get one and get it done, probably next year but when I do I'll post pics.

Thanks Boco. That's really cool you used them on the railroad. I knew they did use a lot of them but just recently became aware of what the different colors mean. And I found it pretty neat too about how they were used with the police, fire, and traffic too.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Brings back some old memories. My dad would milk by one even after we had electric in the house. My older sisters was sure glad when we got electric, it was their job to keep all the glass clean and the wicks trimmed and full of oil. We had one with a mantle for the table to eat by and get lessons. Aladdin don't sound right but can't recall it. I hunted and trapped a couple years with one, til I finally saved up for a carbide lamp, boy that was really something great, and a good hand warmer too.

One time my cousin came to spend the weekend. We was out in a field and found where a bunch of quails had been roosting with their tails together. Not just one but several places. Since I was a couple years older than my cousin I was the brains. I came up with the idea we would go down there in the dark and take a tent that didn't have a floor in it and walk up on them and as they started to fly we would put the tent over them and catch them all. Well we went armed with the old lantern and tent. We walked up on them and they flew up and scared us so bad we was late getting the tent on them. In the confusion I dropped the lantern and it went out. I made sure it was full of oil, but I forgot to bring an extra match. We was already scared and had to walk almost 1/2 mi in pitch blackness.

A lot of my brain storming has ended up like that, lol. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Nice job Catch. I should have a lantern around ...just in case.

Very cool ! I have 2 that are very similar to that one. I should try that now that I know the vinegar and water solution will work for it.

He's out there, I'll catch him..

I still use a lantern in the barn in the winter. It gets dark early.

Foxpaw, was it a B&O lamp? They were similar to the Aladdin.

This is a great tread with some really good stories. Amazing how the sight of something can refresh the memories.

Catch22 I hope this thread takes off like the old vice thread and others will show their old lanterns.

That would be awesome Jim, and not just lanterns. Anything restored would be great to see and hear about. I know I can't get enough of seeing stuff most would pitch in the trash, brought back to full use. And I love the stories too.

nice job catch!!!

I enjoy restoring stuff any time I can. I currently have 2-3 lamps, several coleman stoves and lanterns, an old round oak stove, and a ford tractor for winter projects. Was hoping to get the shop straightened back up today but we have some snow/ice coming so may elect to stay home.

Oh, and thanks to Nessy, I am looking for some old train sets to add to the list.....LOL

Who says getting old aint fun?

That don't ring a bell. I have heard my mom say it many times but she has been gone close to 25 yrs. One of these days it will just pop into my head, but not today, lol. I'll ask my sister, she may know and might even have it. I know another sister took the Seth Thomas clock but that was all she took.
Anyway thanks for trying!

I restore vises and have tried many protectants. I now use clear enamel spray paint to protect the unpainted surfaces. It has been working well.

Hey Hover-Lover, that is a great find. It looks like a pre 1936 Little Wizard and it looks intact except the globe. Ya gonna restore it?

I really like your vises, I will check and see if there is a high heat clear spray paint, that would be idea, thank you.

Thanks Scuba. There are two German lanterns on my list of ones I would like to get and restore. I really like the looks of them. One is a Bat and one is a Nier Feuerhand.
