There are numerous stories I enjoy reading as I go through the Bible a chapter a day. It takes about 4.5 years to do that and have been doing this daily since 12-21-1990.

Two that come to mind today are
1 The road to Emmaus which to me is a metaphor about our faith journey and how our hearts burn as we become closer to Christ
2. Exodus where Jethro who Moses's father-in-law is questioning Moses on having to make all the judgments and decisions and thought he should train some members and delegate out some authority, which to me has led us to how we structure many agencies, firms, cultures etc. today.

1 Corinthians 13, the "love chapter", and the sermon on the mount are two I enjoy. I have "many women do noble things, but my wife surpasses them all", a play on proverbs 31, tattooed on my chest.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

1 Peter 5:10-11
A text that helps us understand life's valleys;

10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
11 To Him be dominion forever and ever, Amen.

God's promise, written down by a rough and tumble fisherman, who with his brother Andrew "followed" Jesus throughout his earthly ministry. Peter knew that life here on earth is very hard at times, thus he is writing, as an Apostle and early Church father to the brethren, to strengthen and encourage them, even as they suffer.
Life here on earth is nothing, in the span of time, compared to eternity.

Peter would later be martyred (crucified upside down) for his faith.

I'd have to think about what would be a favorite story but I think I go to Exodus more than any other book of the Bible. The story of how God brought and brings his people out of the wilderness of sin.

Exodus 14:14: The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.

My daughter in law gave this gift to me. As a teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director we often face anger from parents, etc. I was under attack as a coach for playing my best line up and not playing a student athlete who was not in that mix. The parents were abusive, and attacking me personally. I have this verse with a picture of the Sandhills from a mule deer hunt with the sun shining around around a cloud, beautiful and even more so with the verse in it. It calms me in many difficult situations I deal with to often.

Deuteronomy 8:3 He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.

Shows our dependence on Him and His sustenance of us.

Psalm 46:10

I was trapping one snowy winter day. I was trapping muskrats and had to do some walking to get to the pond. For no reason that I know I heard in my head "Be still and know that I am God." So I stopped and looked around and it WAS still, not even a bird chirping. It was so beautiful with everything covered in snow and ice. I guess maybe God just wanted me to notice and be thankful for all the beauty around me that He had created. Anyhow, since then, that has been my favorite verse.
