No big deal big boy. Up, down or sideways I will tell you like it is and that is the same deer. He had a limp in his left front leg since before he had antlers. I don't know if it is a birth defect or an injury. He has always had that limp and he still has that limp.

He has been around very close since he was a fawn and most of the year stays with the horses. He hits the shinnery thickets when the first shots are fired in hunting season or the rut starts. I will see him some during that time usually right before dark or at night. He comes in where we throw some corn out for the other deer. I do not have feeders out in the pastures for deer, only put out sulfur salt blocks.

I have not seen him in about 3 weeks so I hope he makes it through the season as I only have low fences.

Well that is a piece of information that changes everything. An injury to a leg will significantly affect the shape of the antlers.

BUT BERNIE he had the injury before he had antlers. So an injury has changed them from the beginning?????
So you changed your mind. Straight up LOL !!!!!!!!!!

Yep!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Nobody hunting on this post just looking at pics. Heck if I hunted a ranch in Texas and had a buddy that hung with the cows not bothering anything I'd let him live and watch him grow up... Why shoot him? Just because he doesn't or heck anyone doesn't "shoot" the first legal deer they see doesn't mean they are "farming bucks for antler growth. Doubt there are very many people now days that shoot the first legal deer just so they are finished. Times have changed around here. In the 70-80"s you shot the first buck you saw because chances are that was the ONLY buck you would see.

Where have I said anything about hunting deer on here ? I have not shot a deer in the last 10 years or so since I had a stroke. I enjoy looking at them and taking pictures sometimes.

Plus the fact that since I lost all of my old dogs and got another pup, he likes to play with them.

LOL Need to put bright orange collars around them so people won't shoot them.

Yep, that's a reflective collar she has on so people can't say that's not the same deer. LOL

What is funny is when 4 or 5 of the deer gang up on Roscoe, get after him, try to trap him, and spank his butt with their front feet. He has learned and gets in high gear. I get a lot of enjoyment from watching them.

yes, the obsession with antlers has become ridiculous.

On the idea of identifying a deer from year to year.
I myself don't see it unless as Cedar mentions he feeds them and sees one constantly.
After I see one buck several times a year I can recognize him, but the following year I have no idea what he'd look like antler wise.

I have seen 2-3 large bucks one year, the next year the biggest one was a small 6 pointer and the rest spikes or forks and so it goes from year to year.
Too much of a change from year to year to say with any certainty. Plus I just get sightings for short periods of time, seconds only and usually at over 30 yards in the woods.
Hard to even tell how many points they have.

Occasionally I'll get a doe I can recognize from year to year due to the coloring or shape of markings on her. But I see lots more does and see them frequently, almost daily at times. They are usually out around the house in the fields feeding on the forbs and grasses.

Have lots of deer around, but large percent are does.
