For lure holder I like corn cob with a hole drilled in it, I would like bait holder that I can use above the ground, the corn cob works but it don't hold much and they can run off with it. What do you like to use for lure or bait holder?

I make my own. A 15" or so length of 2" or so green branch I cut in summer when green and I'm trimming tree limbs. One end cut off flat, the other I sharpen with my knife (easy when wood is green). The dry a bucket of these in my garage. In fall when we have a little fire going in the firepit out back unstick the flat ends in for a few minutes just until blackened and smoked up but not on fire. Pull them out and back in the bucket they go. Later I drill a couple 1/2" holes with a wood bit drill these about 2" and 3" down from flat end. One hole one direction, then turn the stick and drill another perpendicular to the first. The holes are the lure and bait holders and will be above ground when pounded in at a set. Holes going different directions catch the breezes from different directions. When fully dried they are rock hard and pound in easily.

When i use them at a set for coyotes, just hammer one in sharpened end first into the ground and at an angle toward where you bet the trap. Bed the trap in front. Bait and lure it up, and walk away. You can also stuff a little sheeps wool or weeds into the drilled holes and use urine for a post set too.

That fire blackened ends really stick out even in a cornfield stubble, mowed hay fields, bean fields, and especially on snow. Makea a great trap marker in snow too. I've made and used these for years. Sort of a natural pipe if you will but with a little fire blackening and they just work well for me. Easy to reuse them too. The more they get chewed on and slobered up after a catch, the better. I have to credit Charlie Dobbins for this, I picked it up from his land trapping book and first couple seasons I used them I was hooked and have made them every since...maybe since late 80s I believe.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

My uncle has been using those lure holders for dipping in doe estrus since I can remember. They come with handy ropes to tie onto tree branches.

I have been using either duff, sheep's wool or my English setter's fur.

Well here In WI we can't use bones feathers or fur as a lure holder unless It's not exposed.
Now a chunk of charred wood Is a great lure holder and It also has great eye appeal. And totally legal here .

Sometimes we take old bleached bones and break them in half. Usually they will be hollow so you can but your bait inside.

Sheeps wool on a stick, stuck in my backing normally. Have used random cow bones broke open, but i normally loose them off the back of the pickup before i get them all used...

Danny that's a cool pic! I like using t-bones too.

Son-of-grizz, it was land sets and trapping techniques by Charles dobbins. He has a section on fire-blackened wood. He picked out stickers that had a fork or other crevice for holding sheeps wool. I modified his technique a little by using a 1/2" drill to make holes where I wanted them and also the type of stick...cut off green thick lengths of branch and sharpened on one end for easier driving into soil. But Charles was the one with idea of fire blackened sticks and eye appeal in various terrain.

Sheep's wool in dirt holes. I look for any skulls laying around the woods in the spring. Drill a hole in the bottom to stake them down with large nails or 3/16" rods I welded a small T on. Keeps them busy when they can't pick it right up and carry it away. Also use charred wood, grass clumps and existing snags the dogs have used as a pee post already. If it's something they used as a post previously, just a squirt of urine and sometimes a little gland lure.
