You have one of those super "yotes" wandering through over there tac...? After an incident a year or so ago, SD GF&P had to add some info in the Hunting & Trapping Guide book that we're not supposed to shoot wolves and how to id an wolf from a yote. More of them are starting to show up , page 32

My friend in Newcastle, wy built a 3-4 million dollar house about 10 miles south of Newcastle, the owner sent a picture of a wolf track, probably crossed the guys land, they found the wolf but missed it. That's a big track!

The other two pictures are flat set remakes, a guy put up a post on pee post sets and I wanted to show him where the trap goes on flat sets or pee post sets
First set the turd is close to coyotes foot, lure is under edge of clump, trap is between them
Second picture the lure Is near end of stick, the turd is on opposite spring lever

I rub borax on, take off excess stuff from hide, then rub in borax again, hang skin side out in front of a fan for about an hour and then put on wood stretcher for 3-4 days, un pin and loosen hide about an inch, run fan on nose one more night

Caught a crappy female yesterday on a wind blown free hill, we have 4-6" of snow here, today I spotted one laying less than a half mile east of where I caught female yesterday.
It got up and went north over the big hill.
I went out in my whites, I topped the hill, maybe missed the coyotes tracks, wasnt sure where it went.
I went a half mile north and stopped on a small low hill between two sloughs, I kneeled down on top next to a deer damaged cedar tree.
I squeaked off n on for about ten minutes, nothing, howled once, squeaked more, few minutes later I howled again.
Then I saw it looking sorta my way, about 300 yds out, squeaked more, no reaction, howled quieter one more time, then it started my way, out of sight right away, it took forever for her to get back in view, she appeared at 150 yds, I shot her in the head as she was staring my way.
I went to get her, got 100 yds towards the truck, saw another coyote come out of low land brush n woods, it went up a hill 450+ yards south of me, trying to get at some pheasants looking for corn in picked field.
I howled once, it started my way, it saw my snowshoe tracks from walking out to find the coyote.
It stopped at about 330-350 yards, I tried a head shot and missed, should have aimed for the high shoulder. It ran back down to the woods, it looked crappy like the other two I got here.
This year I caught 3 bad ones here, first one was worse, I threw it away

Top two pictures are the two crappy females from same group, caught one one day, then next day I saw a coyote less than half mile from trap that got other one.
I went out to see if I could find her, she went north over the hill.
I got a mile into the four square mile section.
I couldn't see him, I missed his tracks, I stopped up on top, there was a slough on both sides of this slight hill, I knelt down next to a 2' high deer damaged cedar.
I tried squeaking for the coyote, nothing, I let out a howl, squeaked more, nothing, howled again, then I saw a coyote appear from the north, squeaked some more, no response.
I howled quietly, she looked my way and started for me, out of sight immediately.
It took forever for her to pop up again, then 150 yds out she stopped and looked for me, I head shot her there.
I thought it was a scruffy male, nope female.
Started back to the truck with nasty coyote, went hundred yards saw a coyote 450+ yards south of me, between me n truck.
Coyote was trying to work an angle on some pheasants in a picked snow covered corn field.
I howled, it came towards me, stopped at about 350 yds, it saw my snowshoe tracks from coming in.
Tried a head shot missed, should have aimed for high shoulder.
It ran back down into the woods.
This morning on my way checking three trap spots from the road I spotted a coyote on a creek snowbank about a mile east of my trap.
Figured it was scraffy coyote I missed couple days ago.
I went out to try a stalk, using creek valley to hide my approach, it was facing south, to the road.
I found it in its bed, knew for sure seeing one ear sticking up.
I was at 180 yards away, on south side of creek, nearly on top of creek valley.
Then I saw both ears facing me, I froze there on my knees, on bald snow covered ground.
She curled up a minute or two later, I tried to move enough to get it in view from the ground.
I made it about ten feet, both ears facing me, she gets up walks quickly 5-6 ft, stops looks at me, I knew now was last chance. I flopped onto my belly leveled the tactical.20, she moved then paused side ways one more time before bolting over the hill, I squeezed it off behind it's shoulder, it drops instantly and slides 30 some feet down the snow bank.
So close, that sharp coyote nearly got away, and it was a real pretty female, not crappy one!
Bed she was in is left and up from coyote, slide marks to coyote, when she slid.
That makes 20 kills out of last 24 stalks

That nice big female I shot, her family group is eating real good, she's got a lot of fat on her.
That's odd, all these good pictures, and helpful advice, almost no comments or questions.

Good to see you are still taking out those deer killers. Do you normally catch that many wounded dogs a season?

It's rare, except many are carrying bird shot, healed up.
When I averaged 120 fox a year, 28-30 years ago, a good 10% would have fresh shot or old in them
I missed a nice coyote, perfect set up, shot, except I thought it was a little over 200 yds, it was almost 300, 15 mph wind moved bullet further than I thought it would

Stalked up on one with my brother couple days ago. I thought it was 200 turned out to be 350 snow and ridges mess with my depth perception apparently. Anyway brother runs a 204 in ar. He applied the accuracy thru volume approach and finally slid it sideways at 437. Good thing it was a good lookin dog cause he burnt thru about 15$ in ammo. It ain’t cheap to run that 204.

There is no try or try not, only a coyote in the trap or not.

They cost a lot?
I bought the die to shorten the.223 casing a hair, and the .204 die to size neck, fire form it with 3/4 a load of powder, then I have a tactical .20 casing.
I shot a vmax at 4375 fps, not a good bullet for coyote, I prefer the Berger 35 grain, 4100fps
Shoots flat, I should have taken more time this morning

Do you catch more in footholds or snares?

More in snares, 60-80% probably, I set more snares than traps maybe 10-1
One season I got 90% in snares, might of been a better year for snaring, grass and weeds don't always grow the same in every spot
