That would be a record catch for me too.....Congrats ! Now get it skinned...tanned and make a hat out of it,that you’ll have for a very long time.

Number 2 in the books, 42lbs. Going to pull out to save seed for another year. This is too much fun to take them all. Going to warm up around here this weekend, making it tough to get to sets anyway. [Linked Image]

Way to go! Now you can hone your skinning skills since you just finished with the other one.

Yes for sure, the first one went well, i got one tiny knick on the back where all the grizzle comes up from the tail. But all in all really good. I plan to skin this one and try flesh it first before i tackle the big girl that i want to hoop into a wall hanger. The fleshing is all new too, i've always sold everything green. These kids have really got me digging deeper into this. FUN!!!

Good Job,it would probably be safe to take a couple more without hurting the colony.

Fantastic. Do what Nessmuck suggested and have a hat made for yourself and your boy, you'll have them for years to come. Beaver are the quintessential American furbearer in my opinion.

Cut off feet with a lopper, I use rounded beaver knife to skin. Have a good sharpening steel handy. They skin easier than they flesh....although fleshing isn’t bad wince you get the hang of it. Two year olds and under are easy, bigger ones you’ll need use of the sharp side of your fleshing knife.
