So the missus wants faster internet than I can provide with my cell phone. we obviously do not have a land line for the phone but do have electrickery out of a pole. Any of you folks have a provider to get hooked up to the net that does not want a million bucks for the service and does not require a phone line ?? I have never looked into this sort of thing as I used a long distance WIFI setup and used the marinas wifi a mile away for my inter web connection. So I have no idea of what is out there.

Who is your cell provider? My son lives in the middle of nowhere but has a great cell reception with AT&T. They have Cellular WiFi. It’s a box that runs off the cell signal and provides WiFi. They can run laptops, phones, and NetFlix with no buffering. They just added it as a line to their cell package. Plus the box has a number assigned and has a jack in the back for the use of a regular analog phone.

I had the cell service thru Alltel before it became Verizon and continued with Verizon. It is not blazing fast but better than the other options and I can take it with me when I am traveling. Verizon is not cheap though if you use much data.

We take the box with us camping sometime, even used it in the car on longer rides since it has a 3hrs battery life. It seems fast enough for us. I don't watch a lot of movies, but youtube doesn't seem to lag at all. My FIL is a snowbird and he takes it back and forth to Florida with him, we call his local number all year round.

My cell phone provider is T mobile .... I'll see if they have something along those lines or if I have to change providers.

At the very least, I would find out which cell phone works best in your area. My internet is through my phone company at the house here, and that's the only reason I haven't eliminated my land line.

Because you have a usable cell phone signal does not mean that it is good enough to support your internet needs. Most providers should be able to tell by your physical address if their service will give satisfactory Wi-Fi service for data.
You may also want to talk to your local county officials to see if your area has an initiative to provide high speed broadband. There are quite a few counties in NC where counties are working with a company to provide better service in rural areas where service is poor or virtually non existent. It is available in my area and I switched a few months ago. It is less expensive and provides better speed than the cell phone plan I had before. The system here is called a hybrid system. It is fiber optic cable to a main tower and then wireless antennae are installed on high points to deliver a wireless signal to a receiver on your structure. I am line of sight to an 84' silo with the wireless antennae.

We had Wild Blue satellite in a remote part of Montana a few years back. Expensive, slower than dial-up on a premium package and your data use was used up by hardly doing anything.

I am using the hot spot of my phone as well at the moment. The thing is that I have to have the phone hanging in a window on the starboard side of the house, or it has no reception. And I doubt that ir will work for the TV anyway with is what the missus wants it for.

Our power company is getting into the internet provider business within a year or so are saying. We started when we moved here with Exede satellite. We are now on fiber optic that AT&T in cooperation with the power company ran the 3/4 mile of line while set 3 new poles without a charge to us. That great deal ended after the year contract ran out. They then jacked up the rates so we canceled most everything but internet and home phone which run on the same line.
In Illinois we were on line of site which worked well for the most part. Heavy rain and snow would shut it down at times. They also sold you the router that was needed and it was about twice what a router from Wally World runs. One just has to check and see which poison they can live with.
