Anyone know how long dry ice will last in one of those white Styrofoam food shipping containers ? Got a shipment that was supposed to be here yesterday, but it's delayed until the 26th. If I have the dates correct, that will be almost a week since it was shipped by the time it arrives. Is that food going to be spoiled ???

Thickness of a insulation, styrofoam, quantity of dry ice , ambient air temp all are factors that make it impossible to say yea or nay. As a guess I would say probably not frozen when you get it but not spoiled either.
Regular cooler five day type 150 quart with 10 lb dry and 20 lb water ice will last a week in the shade in elk camp with days in the 40/50 deg and nights low thirties to high twenties. Good luck. Not being opened four or five times a day will help also.

When dry ice turns from solid to gas (sublimation) it expand about 1500%. If we could contain that pressure inside a cooler, the sublimation would be slower.

Wife’s mom got a package of Omaha steaks from her brother one year. We called a sister to watch for it while mom and dad were out of town with us. Sister put the box under the tree where it remained another week or so until Christmas morning. We now call them Obama steaks.

Is that dry or wet aging?

What type of food ?
If the package is stuck in some warm warehouse....what was the shippers responsiability.?
Dry ice has limits in shipping when being flown, only 1 pound at a time, and labelled if not it can be refused and go ground.
One pound per a coleman water cooler only last 28 hours that's what we used in collecting mosquitoes.
In the Styrofoam coolers to get 48 hours on a 10 pound block was great in the summer.

I get frozen catfish shipped out of Louisiana like that. In one of those Styrofoam shipping coolers there is 10 pounds of catfish, and a piece of dry ice no bigger than a fist, wrapped in plastic. Three days later the ice is still solid, and the catfish is frozen like the day it shipped still. Hope this helps

Not to rob your thread Canvasback, but is Omaha Steaks food any good? I thought about trying some.

For the most part, it is good. A few things I did not like, were the Gourmet Hot Dogs. Too greasy. Had some Cod Fillets last year in the assortment pack. The fillets were REALLY SMALL!!!

The Halibut steaks , at 5 Ounces each; work out to $14.99 for each one. $47.99 a Pound

Thanks for the info. They make it look good on tv, lol. And dang, that's some expensive fish.

Forgot to mention the Fillet of Sole. Have no idea what that was, but it sure was small portions.
