Posco....I trap the same running poles year after year. Are you in a new spot ? Are you on the ground with cubbies or leaning poles ? And a good storm front moving in will produce too. If the weather stays Un-eventfull ....it’s a waiting game I'm on the ground with footholds wiring bait to trees and covering with boughs to meet the regs. I had a lot of activity earlier in the year but then the snow came. That shut them down for quite a while and then we got rain and a hard freeze which froze everything up making it hard to tell where they were moving. We've had good conditions again but the fisher move through a hundred yards this way or that from the last time they passed. I know it's a waiting game but it's maddening. I don't have enough traps to plug all the holes.

You can’t put a 160 on a leaning pole...3-4 inch diameter...5 feet off the ground ?

You can’t put a 160 on a leaning pole...3-4 inch diameter...5 feet off the ground ? Nope, not legal here. We have to use the monstrosities they refer to as a lynx exclusion device. Basically, it's a box or a wire cage with baffles a lynx can't get its leg far enough into to poke around for the bait. Most self-respecting fisher won't enter one. I don't feel handicapped at all using footholds the way I do, just frustrated at having them keep missing my sets.

How do you trap Marten in Maine ? I don't target them as I see very little sign in my area. I think the guys that do use the same boxes the state came up with to thwart fisher trapping.

Lot of regs ovah there.....cant trap on a beaver dam....what are some other restrictions? No drags in this part of the state. The catch circle rule can be problematic. No snares. I'm sure there's others that will come to mind when I go to make a set tomorrow.

Here in PA we can’t have a conibear at all out of the water unless it’s recessed a minimum of 7 inches back into a box, in which has to be placed in a water course such as a stream marsh or swamp.

I have camera up year round on my land the fisher's come thru about every 20-25 days all summer ,I have pile of road kill for them to eat on , and they only stay a day or two I get them on camera occasionally. I had a roadkill deer carcass set here last season and nothing but ermine touched it for a month. This guy came by well after the season closed. They do run this area hard. Maybe today. Great Pic !
