My farming sister moved to Wyoming to hunt big game in wilderness conditions. Our family always has gardens, or a farm, and when she arrived there ten years ago, the individual 'farms' were the size of entire eastern counties. So she tried a garden. They ended up eating a lot of big game without home grown vegetables

I think it's tougher there than Iowa, I wondered if a partial shade over the garden would help

I see corn fields near Casper so I see no reason a garden wouldn't fly.

I think poor soil, heat and wind would be factors to put up with, compost will help soil, probably gypsum too,

When I was a kid we lived between thermopolis and worland. We had a huge garden, and it did very well.

We have a garden every year. No different than anywhere else we have lived, except we put a wind break around it.

baca,
I knew an old fella in Worland years ago that used to grow great tomatoes. He said all you needed was water. Got plenty of sun.

Not so much the soils or rain you can make up for that but growing season is short hard to make up for that. Having said that you can get by with a bit of babying things and a green house, picking varieties that are better suited to the climate. Elevation can be trouble as it takes longer for things to warm up. I can grow tomatoes and cantaloupe some years better than others and I plant more because you loose some to frost but if your a real gardener you can do ok.

Yup I also start plants ahead of time, I trapped nine years for one rancher, brought him black Iowa dirt and compost for their garden and flower beds
