So after the morning festivities with the family were over, I figured I’d go check the two sets I have out for cats and do some scouting before the wife put me to work in the kitchen helping prepare dinner. Both sets are about 30 ft apart but on opposite sides of a stone wall from one another. I’ve caught a cat here before, they walk the walls mousing as they travel and anything with eye appeal seems to bring them in. Anyways, the one set had a catch circle, with an area outside the catch circle ruffed up in the leaves. In my trap was a raccoon leg/paw. Had it buried in a bridger 2. Wasn’t going anywhere, but based off of the remaining hair strewn all over, I have to believe a coyote came in and gave that raccoon a final send off. I looked around for a bit and found nothing left of the raccoon other than some more hair down the trail. So I put in another set down that trail further, and reset the one that the raccoon was in. I’ve read and seen pics where other members have lost red fox due to coyotes. I would have to imagine others that trap way more than me must’ve had similar experiences. Based off the size of what was left it had to be a young coon. Has anyone else seen this? Am I wrong thinking coyote, maybe bobcat. This is in a heavily wooded pine stand and I have to believe that it wasn’t a bird of prey.

I've had them kill numerous red fox. Usually they grab them by the back and shake them to break the neck/spine. None were ever eaten but some were torn to pieces, can't say for sure if that was the yote(s) that did that but I believe it was.
I would think a yote initially killed your coon and maybe something else came along and carried it off for dinner, a good chance it was a cat.
Eh...wot?
