I'm using a jar that was opened but kept in the fridge since last year. I don't seem to have the activity around my sets like other years. You reckon that lure can go bad in a year kept in the fridge? Doesn't smell foul but it doesn't smell quite as potent as I remember either.

I've not heard of that happening. PM your address to me and, I'll send a replacement jar to be sure. Thanks but no need at this point Paul. I kinda want to see what happens anyway. I was just curious if it has ever been mentioned before. I appreciate it though.

You may need a change-up lure. They may have gotten the word on Backbreaker and are avoiding it. They will associate danger with an odor when they encounter a relative in distress where that odor is present.

They will associate danger with an odor when they encounter a relative in distress where that odor is present. ^THIS^ I've never had a jar of Backbreaker, or any other Dobbins lure, "go bad" on me. However, I've had many critters get wise to me and my go to lures. Beaver are especially known for becoming castor shy if they see colony members getting whacked and every set within sight is heavily dosed with castor. This applies to all castor based lures. For this reason subtlety in lure usage and more visual is my preference. That and a solid performing non castor lure. Woodchipper on peeled sticks is as good as Backbreaker in my book. And Beaver Plus is coming on strong even in areas where flat tails are wise to regular Backbreaker.

Lure never goes bad.....had it freeze ...refreeze...add a few drops water to lure to loosen it up....had some odd jars for years...still works

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I intended on buying some Skunky Backbreaker this year but didn't get around to it. Good stuff, huh? Set me a jar aside, Paul. Maybe two.

May sound goofy, but am I the only one who gets into a clan of beaver that are kinda smart or have good memories? Your down to the last couple beaver, I stay away a week or so then go back with a feed set using, in my case Lenons muskrat all Call? I have had beaver screw up rat sets in the past, that's why I tried. I don't do it regular, but enough to keep a 1 ounce jar with my beaver bag with my other lures.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

A few years back I had a bought my first bottle of Back Breaker and was hoping to find beaver areas. I was also using the white PVC pipe for my coon sets. sets I mad were out in the middle of small streams, I would stuff some dried grass or leaves inside the pipe and the put my coon lure in the pipe and stuff a little more grass in the pipe and smear just a bit of the lure on the lip of the pipe. One day I grabbed a bottle of lure from my kit and headed. When I made the first set, I wondered about the smell, and then I read the label…. Back Breaker... Well, I left and set the other three pipes using the BB. the nex day I had 3 coon and the 4th pip was knocked down, grass pulled out, and the trap tripped.
I later used it trapping Beaver and haven't found anything better, for them too.

I too used skunky Backbreaker this year for the first time and it was awesome stuff. Caught coyotes in dirt holes and pipe dream sets with it.
