So the place I’m at now has an old garage/shed that basically sat unused previously (except for junk storage) for a long time (3-4 years). Needless to say it developed a mouse/rat problem. I have most of the stuff cleaned out and believe I have taken care of most of the rodent problem. However what I’m looking for is a good way to try and get rid of the smell of a dirty/unused shed along with the somewhat strong smell from the previous rodent issue. Any good way to go about this besides just leaving the door open for long period of time? It is set to become my new heated fur shed/work shed.

Setting traps and catching critters will make it smell like a fur shed in no time.

You could keep the door open and let it air out some. Maybe in the spring warsh it down real good. But I would do like gray dog said, it won't take long before it smells sweet like a fur shed.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I would open a bottle of Gusto and set it in the middle of the shed until the bad odors are gone.

Get one of those pump up sprayers and mix a good strong bleach solution, spray down the whole inside of the shack. This will reduce the chance of catching the deadly hantavirus when you go to sweeping up the rodent detritus.Sweep while everything is still damp.Hantavirus is acquired when breathing dust when sweeping.

Spray down what you can with a microbial agent and soak it well. Wildlife control supplies has several products that can do odor control and anti bacterial agents.

DSV disinfectant is a very good product that you mix with water. It isn't cheap but does a good job on some bad problems.

This if it still has a smell afterwards get several boxes of baking soda and sprinkle it thick over a he entire area let set for a while then sweep up and dispose of it outside

That hantavirus is nothing to mess with

I have done several old range cabins and such given the rodent problem I would get a weed sprayer and use a mixture of 10 percent Chlorox to 90 percent water mixture and spray it down and anything in there that had vermin on it. I will kill the bacteria causing the smell sterilize it and will keep out the mice for a time. When you get it cleaned out stuff it with glue traps and Decon bait. I got to say I love a good mouser cat also.
