Not a hunt....but some excellent Brown Trout fishing in Ireland. Got a chance to go in August with the whole family and nephews. And a tour of Ireland by one of our friends that has family there. Can’t wait !
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
Many many times Nessie since I was a wee lad.Have family there.Fished and hunted there and drank in many a pub with my cousins. The food and drink is exceptional, especially the seafood, its always fresh.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
On Dec 15 I started hunting at 9:00 A.M. and had the winter moose quartered and hanging in the yard by 11:30. My dream is to cut that time to 2 hours by shooting the next one in the yard.
Never shot a moose but I have helped to butcher a few steers over the years .I would think it would be much easier getting one close to home than in the bushes and swamps
Self guided hunters tend to not plan on the work. The huge advantage of a guided over non-guided is logistics. If you are young and tough and know how to butcher a moose, save the money and get a drop off hunt. If you are old and crippled hire a guide and let him do all the work. There is no fun in packing a moose or tracking an arrow shot moose to find it( or not ) dead in a jungle or swamp or water. Bring a gun to plant them where they are easy to deal with. Don't shoot that moose that results in a 2-5 mile moose meat death march.
I've listen to too many self guided horror stories from guys that did it. Not the hunting. The packing.
Amen Dirt! Don't know how many times I've spotted a bull 2+ miles away and you pray the client doesn't spot it! It is also amazing how many "dream hunts" were what we did (you still do) as part of our living.

I always wanted a big whitetail and got that done last year. Grossed 195 7/8ths. Saw him the year before but let him walk as I could tell he was a younger deer hoping like crazy I would see him again. When he showed up opening day I was excited to say the least. I saw him Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and finally got a clear shot on Wednesday. Every time I saw him he was less than 50 yards but never had a clear shot until Wednesday morning. Every time I couldn't get a shot and he disappeared in the trees I thought I would never see him again.
Also have always wanted a big mulie, antelope, elk and caribou. Finally going antelope hunting this next year.

Posco I had to look up the " Mitch Rompola buck" when I did I remembered seeing the pic in my teenage years. Quite a fascinating story with the buck too. Mine was 25" inside and 28" outside and I think his was 38" outside which is unreal

It's all fun and games until you get one on the ground, even if you planned on the work. Me and my saggy britches.
