I have never figured out why people shoot them with birdshot. Body shots usually only wound unless extremely close. I admit to shooting a coyote with #4. He came in to my call while turkey hunting, the head shot at 20 yards dropped him immediately.

That extra 100 yards and 15 mph wind will throw it off. I have a heck of a time judging range in open fields. Most places that I hunt 150 yards is a long shot. I do have a couple places with big fields where 300-400 yards is possible.

Ya I should have not been in such a hurry, he stood up broadside, better Target than curled up in a bowl. The wind drift could of been 20", I had maybe ten inches figured

Top one of four, a real big older male shot at 150 yds, second one is the one that was laid up way out in the open, only area he couldn't see his nose and ears covered that. I had to crawl 400 yds or more for the 150 yd shot, once I crawled off the hill a crappy wire fence was in the way, so I crawled all the way to the fence
Dark big female, third big female at this flat set, caught three more coyote 50 yards south of set.
It's amazing how many females have been caught here over the years.
The last picture is a real big male I spotted against a small drift.
Half mile to him, crawled last 250+ yards, I don't think he raised his head in all that time.
Three big males, three days, three adjoining sections, 5 square miles.
Where the females?

Fourth big adult female in the flat set, last one was much darker, this one looks decent
I saw one track yesterday, thought the coyote might be in the section north of this, I tried calling it in at dusk, no luck, could be same one
There's more coal shale here than dirt! Lol

I know, I hate skinning, preparing coyotes, fox were so much easier, I would love to say I got 100 coyotes in a season, but I don't think my hands could skin all of them.
I usually get about double what I got this year, atleast it's better than last year.
Thanks Les!!

I have the first one made, I do need a new one, biggest problem is keeping them from fogging up in cold weather, I think I missed 3-4 because rifle might be shooting high
