Well, last night the crap hit the fan. I have an all female team, how that happened is beyond me. I have a new officer who is black. I corrected her( apparently too hard) and was labeled a racist, intimidating and shouldn't have disciplined her for refusing two orders.
I was made by my supervisor to apologize. The new officer ( 6 months on duty) is slow a learner and I'm afraid will get myself or a team member hurt. From day one, I have let each new officer know. They all will be treated the same, no favorites, no drama. apparently that doesn't apply when you refuse orders. My other officers have come to my rescue, but apparently that doesn't mean anything with my supervisor.
She even said that I treat everyone the same. Very frustrating, now I'm in the hot seat until further notice. I don't believe she will last long. This job isn't for her. But until then, my 12 hour shifts are miserable.

For crying out load, I have friends who are black. God I wish I could retire and move so far from people and back into the woods deeper then I'm am now and not see another person for a very long time.

X2. The weaponizing of race when in comes to discipline is a big reason for the lack of respect for authority figures, often causing unnecessary deaths.

I had to apologize. Either get wrote up or worst. I needed to get my supervisor off my tail before I said something I would regret. I choose last night to pick my battles. I have been documenting for sometime now (even on my supervisor). When the time comes if needed. I will take it to the top. Hopefully it will cool down.

I like my job, I want to keep my job. So, I played the game until I don't have to anymore. Unions are few and far between here South Carolina. Right to work state.

I think you have already lost. No matter what true documentation you give, you admitted being racist and that's all your employer will now see. You are no longer trustworthy in their eyes because you are an admitted racist. As far as your employer is now concerned, all documentation you give will just be further proof that you are out to get this woman, because you're a racist.

Properly worded an apology won't admit to anything and will be good enough to get by societies dullards.

You have a crappy supervisor. A good supervisor stands up for his people and has their back unless they are 100% no doubt in the wrong about something. That's how I treat the guys and gals that work for me anyway.

Being right has nothing to do with it it’s all about liability and avoiding issues at all costs.

Yep, of course. Anything to be politically correct, avoid lawsuits, avoid further accusations of racism, and keep from hurting anybody's poor feelings.

I don't know if you corrected her in front of the other officer or not, but if you did, never do it again. Then it is only your word against yours. Whether she knows it or not she just jeopardized, her job, her trust from other officers and you. She is now standing by herself. Wait until she needs the advise or confidence in one of the other officers and they turn their back on her. Then she will understand what she has done. I was an LEO to long and I have seen it happen many times. Your officers should be not only behind you, but behind each other.

In the law enforcement and high end security industry, employees are mostly never written up unless plans are being made to soon terminate them. The employees file will quickly be filled with sufficient justification for their termination, so that when the time comes, the employer appears to be completely justified in terminating the employee. The employer will interview the employee's supervisors, co-workers and employees and document everything that can be used to terminate that employee. It's often called lining, stacking or poisoning the file. It's standard operating procedure.

Nothing usually gets documented before that point, because it could be requested by the lawyer of anyone who sues if arrested or injured by that employee and used against the organization that employs them.

To those saying you should not have apologized they apparently didn't read your opening post "You were made to apologize by your supervisor". If all you did was to correct her without using any name-calling or innuendo then I think your supervisor made an error in judgement.

As long as you do things the right way and by the book, and as long as you know you're not a racist then I think you just move on and keep your head high.
