There's a spot on my local creek that otters frequent... Problem is the bottom is a solid sheet of rock. All weights will slide on the slime on the rock. It has cracks in it though... I need to figure out some kind of doodad I can wedge in those cracks to anchor the deep end of my drowners.

Use a drown rod with two stakes. If toy want to get fancy make it with a T on top to separate the stakes.

Yup....the rotors I use are off a 3/4 ton pickup....one has been plenty. But like The Beav said....if you got a rock hard stream bottom....that cinder block or rotor will slide like a toboggan......don’t ask me how I know this....lol. In cases like that....a feed bag with dirt and rocks will hold better.

Mike, Take the rotor and put a 6 foot length of any type of chain on it. Then put it out with a load of rock piled on top of the rotor. Enough that the otter can't move it. Fasten the end of your drowner to the end of the chain. The drowner will be secure, yet the length of chain will keep the otter from being able to sit on the pile of rocks on the rotor.

I have an acquaintence who owns a shop. He said take whatever you want so.... I too stack lighter ones and attach them with chain. The initial work of getting them where you want is a pain but once they are there they really shine. These are all stashed along a creek that has a muddy bottom. The chains are 2/0 with permanently mounted trap slides on them. I attach with a J hook when I'm trapping. The whole process goes pretty quick. Attach trap. Anchor top chain. Throw in the weight. Move on. When setting for coons I always set three. It is great to come up on a triple all drowned!

Mike, a bag of rocks or a rotor, positioned over a crack, with a small diameter stake punched through the bag or rotor hole, will keep it from sliding. We have a lot of rock bottom streams around here, only trouble with it is if the stream is cloudy, ya can't find the cracks to push the stake into. It don't take a lot to keep it from sliding when rigged like that!

That's what I'v did but with cable or #11 wire., but I lean towards a different piece of railroad metal of which I have many, and they lay and stack nice in the truck.

It's a fair distance across. I'll try to get pictures so everyone can get an idea of what I'm dealing with.

For beaver or otter use sandbags. You can take them out empty, fill them on location with gravel or sand and if need be, empty them and bring them back empty. I fill them about half to 3/4 full and get 15 to 20 pounds of weight. After I fill them to the weight I want, I twist the rest of the bag as tight as I can get it. wrap wire around it to secure it. Then, behind that wire I run a little heavier piece of wire through the bag to the center of that piece of wire, double wrap it around, make a loop, twist the ends, This loop is what is use to fasten my quick connect to the end of drowning cable. One place I trapped for 3 years and left the bag sitting by a fence post after each use and it was good to go when I needed it again. Here is where you can order them: http://www.esandbags.com/

This is probably the best option.

Here is what I came up with...welded a single stake swivel to the toggle. I honestly think it will perform as intended.

Plus, I can stake the deep end with rebar if needed

Just happy to be here.
