I don't think it's for stretching carpet. I've laid carpet. Those lugs are too large to grab carpet. Carpet stretchers have small, sharp teeth to bite into the carpet, not big, smooth lugs.

Just sent the shots to my bro', in england, to show a carper fitter friend. Just for fun.

The patent sort of steals the show. But, yeah; I'd tend to agree that No Way could that thing hold a rug. Carpet Fitters I've seen use a finer, many spiked plate, with a leather covered, padded 'stooltop' sort of affair at the other end.

They press the spikes into the carpet. Ram their knee against the padded bit, to shove the carpet where they wanted it.

How long would tacks last, in that little bowl ~ being shoved and swung? Nope. Just doesn't make sense.

But, there's a Patent ..... Guess there was for the " Duncan Rabbit Trap " too!
