I am shipping frozen coons to a fur house for skinning & tanning. I mean the entire frozen coon, frozen solid.
Transit time is 3 days. How long will it take to defrost?

My goal is to not have it defrost in transit, so it starts stinking, and dripping liquids. UPS wouldn't like that very much.

Do you think a 3 day transit time is ok? or will I need to do 2 day air ?

Just a weekend trapper...

Put in very heavy plastic. Tape the snot out of it. It’s going to thaw!

All depends on how well you pack it and how you insulate the package. Hopefully, you rolled it up in a ball to freeze it so you do not have legs sticking out. Double or triple bag it in good quality heavy plastic so it will not leak. Another reason to not have the feet sticking out to punch holes in the bags. Use an oversize box and insulate it. Styrofoam sheet, peanuts, newspaper, fiberglass insulation...whatever you have. Ship only on Monday. Since it is winter, 3 days should be OK but if it is delayed, there is always a risk. And if the package does start leaking, that will cause more delay.

I have shipped whole frozen coyotes that took more than 3 days and they were fine. But I also know someone who shipped a whole turkey that should have been 2 day max but it started leaking and never got delivered.

I don't think It's going to thaw out In that time frame. It may get a bit soft In places but that won't be a problem. Even If It thawed out completely It still won't be a problem.
Just make sure your packaging Is leak proof.

How far are you shipping them? If it is east of the Mississippi River. 3 day transit time should be ok.

Have you researched the shipping cost? Even UPS ground is going to cost more than the coon are worth. 2nd day air - you better be sitting down with a good strong drink in your hand when you find out that cost!!

The most important thing is multiple layers of plastic bags and lots of good sturdy tape.
