Why Duke names them 550 or 650's,#2 or #3,when MB traps were made they didn't call them MB 600 on the 650,they parralled the MJ 600 a little but not copied 99% percent,i'm sure they will be decent traps, but it will be interesting to see how they hold up after 2,3 years of use.I'm not a longliner for mink, coon if I was I would be using Duke 1 1/2,but for coyotes I try to use the best I can, which are MB 550,some Bridger dogless #3 and Sterling MJ 600's coyotes really test your gear.

It's also Interesting That One of the best coyote trapper out there use's Duke #3 offsets. Does that mean that everyone should sell what ever they got and buy Duke? Dont think anyone said dukes wont work. I dont think it is much difference in some one buying a new truck when they could have got a used one. If you can afford it why not get it? It's only money, cant take it with you when you go. When I die and everyone goes through my traps it may make them feel like they got something nice when they pick up the mb traps.

My post doesn't say anything about anyone buying Duke traps. Just making an observation.

4 coiled... Can't use it here. But I guess it would be possible to pull the 2 helper coils off and use it 2 coil?

Matt. I feel the same way about my KB Extremes. Yes kb is another good one as for sterling's and others. There are alot of good traps and alot of traps that work. I have Duke, bridgers, mb and victor traps they all catch, some I think work better in some situations then others but they all get used.

Duke #3 is my beaver and coyote trap of choice. And the 1 1/2 is my smaller trap too. I do use the old V#2 for mink and rats.....jk

I think it might be a good point to say that in todays market we have an absolute plethora of good quality traps. In the past especially some of the older than me trappers couldn't say they had 5-10 choices for a good coyote trap. I personally think this trap answers the question a lot of trappers have asked. I don't run dukes right now but i wouldn't be against this trap being on my line at all.

Matt, in regards to the 4-coil question in Oklahoma. I always assumed that our "double spring" wording would exclude 4-coil traps but I have been told that it doesn't since the coil spring traps still only has two levers. Saying that, I don't see the need for 4-coil traps when new but I'm not opposed to adding helper strings when the original two become weak. One interesting thing I noticed was when Outdoor Oklahoma did a show on trapping a few years back a well know Oklahoma trapper was using 4-coiled traps on the show.
I've always like the MB550 and didn't care for the MB650. I always wished MB would come out with a 600 that was of the 550 design. I have enough MB550 that I haven't tried the Duke 550 but can see the Duke 650 filling a need. I have some 650s and I use them they aren't my favorite trap but they have served me better then the bridger 3 dogless. The 550 is my main go to trap. Then I will use the few 650s I have. As far as legal or not who knows guess i will cross that bridge when i come to it. Some wardens say that dont care others act like you murdered a kid. I dont trap places where I have a high percentage chance of seeing a warden. I got the 650s for 100 dollars for a dozen brand new never used, I couldn't pass that up. from a guy who bought them but then didn't want to trap. Most wardens close me are decent guys and really dont care.

I'm game. Wanting to know the price already. Probably need to change the chain and swivels but if they are enough I'd like to try them out.
That being said I used the MB550 this season for the first time, Excellent!
