I have trapped for over 60 years and never have I caught so many bobcats. We are not allowed to keep them here so they get released but right now I am catching 4 cats for every red fox or coyote. Ever tried to get a cat out of a snare when he is tangled up in the air in some brush? Great Fun!

Are you using a stop to keep cats healthy on your snares?

I have went to a the largest loop we can legally use-12 inches. Most cats are caught with 1 front leg thru. Red fox blunder along and still get neck snared as long as I keep the bottom of the snare 10 inches off the ground. I am however, according to trail cam pics missing the gray fox. I do have a gray fox exclusive snare sets that I will use soon to get some of the few gray fox that are around. The absolute best furred grays are caught in February.
We will never have a bobcat season in NJ. They were put on the non-game list years ago and to get them transferred to the game list would take an act of legislature and that ain't happening in this state. Too bad cause we sure have some big cats with some having pretty white spotted bellies.

Starting to become very abundant in Ohio. Seen one in bow season and one Saturday in muzzleloader. Like to see a season open.

I have seen 2 road killed bobcats in the last month in Ohio, but have not seen a live one. If we are not allowed to trap bobcats, I would rather not have them in Ohio. They definitely won't help our small game populations.
