Yes, public land. I don't have the money to pay for an outfitter and I am not particularly "trophy" hunting. Season ends here in Indiana around New Year's and I like the idea of getting away from everything. How is the hunting pressure? Hunting pressure? people are mixing in xanax to the corn feeders to calm em down. every swinging hammer is shooting nearly everything that moves around here. Lots of florida hunters around me. I have never even attempted to hunt public land in alabama and i have hunted here my whole life.

One thing is our deer rut late here. The deer where i am in south alabama are just now breaking up from their bachelor groups and starting pre-rut. They wont be losing their minds till the end of the month and first week of february and that is the best time to see a buck in the daylight. The deer in north alabama are rutting now i think or just getting started. There are plenty of places to hunt on public land and if you will walk just a little bit further than the other guy you might find a hole somewhere that hasnt been pressured too much. But with our generous limits you can be sure our deer walk around looking in trees and spook easier than your yankee deer. Killing a mature buck where i am in alabama is ALOT harder than when i hunted public land in kansas.

If you hunt Bankhead better bring you some mtn. climbing gear. Shoot every feral hog you see in there also!
I grew up in Double Springs which sits in Bankhead National Forest.
Deer were hauled in during the 70's from Mich. so they still have that northern gene, why they're the biggest in the state.
Not my circus, not my clowns.
