Good morning, love the photos you post every morning. Here’s a photo of Adirondack Yellow Birch logs from the 1950’s. Harvested on Gould Paper Co.’s John Brown Tract near McKeever, NY ,by J&C Lumber Co. West Leyden, NY. The man on the far left is my Father, co-owner of J&C Lumber Co.

Timber by Andrews is good...….Its west coast though. From Stump To Ship is the only east coast one I know of. I searched From Stump To Ship and there is a youtube video of a film of that name made in the old lumbering days. It is well worth the 1/2 hour it takes to watch it. If you have seen it you should check it out. Thanks a lot for the info.

my property was a loading spot for the hemlock and other timber to be floated to and loaded on the train2 bigger rivers for the area meet out back.as i clean and work on things its amazing to see how they controlled the water and logs.3 shallow brushy silted in ponds connected by channells with extra sections of railroad grade.amazing to me to explore where i havent worked yet.even a set of tracks that go to a huge spring where they filled the trains with water.

Also, Rev Frank Reeds book and video titled Lumberjack Sky Pilot . PBS airs his video of logging and river drives during the 30’s and 40’s in ADK’s and Tug Hill, whenever they are looking fo pledge money.

Yes I have, many time. I also have the Philip Thome book about the pine creek valley and have read it many times. I lived in Tioga country for five years back in the mid eighties.
I have not been to the lumbering museum in about twenty years and I have heard it has change since my last visit. Might make a drive up on a weekend soon.
The work those men did with axes, whip saws, muscle, and water power amazes me. I love reading about it. major upgrades there, let me know if you do.
