I have used Meyer Hatchery out of Ohio for years. They are very dependable and when i lived in Ohio i could pick up directly from them. Before that i used Norfolk chicken hatchery in Nebraska. I am not aware if they exist anymore though. Need to research that a bit.

Meyer here too. Last year I ordered 6 chicks and they asked if I wanted a free one, so sure!

I’ve used Meyer, Ridgeway and Mt. Healthy. All are Ohio hatchery’s. Most impressed with Mt Healthy. I’ve picked up and also had delivered. Cruise their websites and make a choice. All seem to be in business a long time.

I used cackle 5 years ago and was very pleased, their barred rocks were my favorite birds, calm and excellent layers. Also had their Rhode Island reds and they were a good layer just not a very attractive bird in my opinion. In addition I had their "easter eggers" or whatever they called them and they were my least favorite, alot of variation and the least personable of the bunch.

I've used both Mt Healthy and McMurray. Both were fine. Honestly, I suspect they're all good. But I would pick one close to you this time of year. Those mail trucks get cold and chicks don't have a lot of body heat, no matter how many there are.

I’ve been very happy with Hoover’s Hatchery out of Iowa.

cackle is good - we have bought leftovers from them several times

what breed are you looking for? I would determine what you wanted and then look for best hatchery for that breed. I prefer hatcheries that can get birds to me quickest. Unless, I want a specific line of bird such as ISA genetics

We had good luck with Hoovers last spring. We ordered 3 each of 6 varieties. Doing great although we now have a very happy rooster who slipped through the sorting process! I watch him go to work each day with a different girl and I have to say there is a little envy! grin

Never ordered but one of my fav breeds was my french copper maran. What a personality and all it wanted to do was forage for bugs. Great chicken laid very well too for me all the way until it was 3.

Last chicks I order came from Hoovers and were some of the nicest chicks I had received in a long time.

White Plymouth? Are they a white egg layer or brown?
