Any of you guys ever get jury duty? I just got off of a trial that lasted several days and I served as a juror. The 1st day I was there none of the defendants showed up and the judge had to issue warrants for them.
The case I was on was pretty disturbing from the terrible crimes that were committed and the terrible presentation by the plaintiffs attorney and witnesses.
Guess it was better than being on the 6 week murder trial that's going on now just missed going on that one by a couple of spots. Hopefully I don't have to go back for awhile. I didn't mind serving full filling my civic duty but (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) there's some sick people out there.
I was amazed at sitting in the hallway waiting and seeing all of the young people in chains and shackles being escorted up and down the halls especially the woman.

I was on for half the month of September , didn't get a call must have been a slow month here or everyone made deal.
when I got my letter in the mail I called and asked if I need to call in each day or report on Monday , nope they would call me if they needed me.

In the past, I was called for jury duty twice in Montgomery County, Ohio and was dismissed because I knew the judges, prosecutors, some of the police involved, the ballifs and was related to the commanding officer in the one case. There was no way a defense attorney would let me be on the jury there.
I was called for Jury duty here in Champaign County, Ohio last year. The evidence technician for the county used to work for me and we had been friends years ago, but had not seen each other in years. I vaguely knew some of the other deputies involved. I was surprised to be picked for the alternate juror. We came back the next morning and it was soon clear there was no way the defendant would be found innocent. We went to lunch and when we came back were told there would be a delay to the start of court. I thought the defendant was likely taking a deal and I was correct. We were dismissed soon afterwards.
Fully of a third of the jurors who were called did not show up. The judge told us they would receive letters asking them to call the court.

I was called up and in the jury selection process, but I had a Beagle due to whelp any day, and got excused because I didn't have anyone to be there for her. Turns out I dodged a bullet, as 8 MONTHS INTO THE TRIAL, some lawyer said the wrong thing, and the whole thing was thrown out.

I have been in several jury pools for selection in my life, but only once called and made it all the way as a jury member. Then was voted as foreman, and the only male in the jury, lasted three day's and was fascinating to me how procedures drag things out so much, and that there is so much parlay between the judge and attorneys, some in front of the jury other times not so.
I'd do it again in a heart beat, but once served you go off the roles for five years, I'm out of that now so will be getting notices again.
Was DUI case that the guy had been trying to beat for over two years with procedures which finally led up to a trial by jury or judge and he choose the jury.
He had a lengthy record of DUI and was just trying to drag things out, the Prosecutor was on him like fleas on a dog, and his defense lawyer was some sort of wild eyed go getter totally unprepared through out every process.
Still the judge sent us in after all the stuff was over, and we did find him guilty after 5 hours of debate, the process in the jury room is as fascinating as the court room. And we were treated with the utmost respect for our time we spent. Any thing we wanted to drink, restroom breaks, lunch, questions to evidence were quickly answered, had the court room officer at our door the whole time to continue checking on us if we needed anything. Both attorney's asked to question us after the verdict, and no one was allowed out of the court room until they were finished, which was held in a different room. This was voluntary on our part, but everyone agreed to being questioned.
I would highly recommend one taking the time to serve, instead of trying to dodge what they think is a bullet, you actually may change how you look at court rooms and how tings get done in them !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

A lot is just a dog and pony show between the lawyers and the judges most are forgone conclusions they play out in court that have already been decided. Sometime I have felt handicapped about what I could say on the stand to assure they get the outcome they wanted rather then the truth being told.

I have been called twice. Once for state. The other for Federal.
I had a letter from my hearing aid company each time that was sent to the court.'
Why would they take a chance on someone who can't hear well?

I've been voting for over 50 years, but, have never been called to jury duty. They must get their list of candidates from something other than voter registration.
No big deal, I was probably busy that day, anyway.
