My dad gave me some older traps. They r different than what's on the market today. They are victors (a v is on pan) and they r not coiled and some are not really long spring. Just a lever you push down and almost seems like you work it behind the trap. I don't really know how to explain it. But I'm sure someone knows what they are. Just wondering how old they would be. Thinking about putting back in commission but there is no pan tension to them at all.

Can you tell about how old they are? Just curious. Thinking about setting some. But don't like the chain and want more pan tension.

They do have cast jaws but not that special or that great of trap might be worth $15

Well i don't care about dollar value. Just curious as how old. Ya on both the small ones. Looks like probably same size as a number 1 or 1 and half they got slider lock on ring. Even the bigger ones with a 5 and half jaw spread I believe got a slider lock.

I'm guessing 1930s. I've been tempted to set this for under ice beaver trapping but haven't gotten around to it.

I don't think I will get around to it this season yet. Well probably smaller ones for mink, muskrat, coon. Than next season replacing chain and using bigger ones.

Jump traps, also known as underspring traps, were made by Animal Trap Company (the Victor people) until some time in the 1980s.

In the first half of the 20th century (1900-2000) long spring and under spring traps were the two common types of traps. When coil spring traps became popular in the 1970s, interest in the under spring traps died down. There are some old time Trappers that still like and use under spring traps.

Oneida (Victor) under spring traps came in 6 sizes. 0, 1, 1 1/2, 2, 3, 4. The 3 larger sizes also came in models with teeth. 12, 13, 14.

Other company’s also made jump traps. Blake & Lamb, Herters, Diamond, Triumph, to name a few.

You can cut a Miles Trigger on them and that will give you some tension and may also take some of the pan wobble out. If you research the archives there are some posts on how to do it I think there was one regarding
setting up long springs but the dog and notch are the same as on many old jumps. I have used jumps successfully on beaver, fox and coyote. The modern coilspring is probably a better trap but I have and continue to use
jumps. The red fox that I caught this morning in a #2 jump didn't know any different from a jump or a coilspring. Set em and good luck

The trap looks to be toothed.
