I am a history junkie and would like to see the area between the two places .I don't think there is a road .I am not a polar bear watcher so I would not make the trip for that .I doubt you would get much daylight in the winter to see between places .Any suggestions by folks that have been on this trip would be welcome .

Make sure you stop for a day visit to the Museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg. The Nonsuch ship replica is worth a tour, all the natural history biones are in large displays so you can see the habitat you are visiting. When in Churchill make sure you line up to see the Youtuber , True North Living. You can drive to Thompson or Gilliam and take the train for the rest of the way.
the summer times the train does get booked up, but the birding is great .
pm me anything else.

Just Google him on youtube
His trapline is 3 hour snow machine ride down and west of Churchill on the tundra/ boreal edge.

Most people take the train either up or down and it travels really slow on the tracks so you gets miles and miles of boreal taiga scenery.
I've only flown up doing mosquito research during their peak activity testing DEET. Darn stuff we were testing had 6-8 hours repellant but the black flies took 12 hours to bite and by that time I was getting 200-300 bites/ minute by the mosq's.
But the train is back and up running after a wash-out and bail out from the railway.
A couple of years ago the CO from there Bob Windsor printed some article in FHA's magazine about working with polar bears etc. His son did some ylogs of activities there as well.

That's why the caribou necks swell up....it's not the rut but those mosq. bites, and the black fly chunks of meat off their necks.

Top speed 25 more like 15 mph when there is not a head wind.....one thing about it the mosq 's do not splash the Loco's windshield at that speed.
It is a beautiful view from the Dome car much like they use in the Rockies....but you can see for miles on the Churchill run. Make sure you book this possion

Was on the bucket list till Grandkids kicked it over.

Make sure you tour over to the Fort and be awayed struck with the labour that went into it.....and the meat that went for food to supply it in the winter months some 250 years ago.
We went with some of the towns folk named, Hick's who were trappers and got off to extra places a tour never goes because of this. Their dad was ones that caught the artic lemmings that Walt Disney used in their film, that they made in Calgary of them running over the cliffs....viewer discretion advised.

Northern Trapper is on some of those rivers that Samuel H travelled on and hunted caribou
Day trips could be arranged for a trip over to the Fort
In Winnipeg arrangements can be made to look at some of the fort records that the HBC had in your regions if you want to look at some historical records that was sent back to Canada several years ago, I t does take 3-4 months and some time available for a curriator to pull the records, knowledge of OLD English is needed for the terms used.
June for birders
July for belugias
Oct for big white fuzworts seeing

What about swimming with the beluga whales? Thought I had read something about being able to swim or kayak with them in the bay.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Could have been some federal rulings about that activity.
Actually the killer whales have showed up in the Churchill estuary lately so might not be the best thing to do now.
