Today we experienced some inclement weather during the check and the wind last night seemed to hinder coyote movement as well. The cats on the other hand were definitely moving. Shane picked up two Tom cats and I pickled up one giving us the hat trick! This bings the trip total to 6 cats so far.

With the ice, snow and wind last night we didn’t connect. There were animals moving but just not committing. Except for a bobcat that walked all over my set without setting off the trap. The grass and ice floated him. I hope he comes back soon!

Did you clean the trap off or just leave it?

I peeled the crusty layer off the trap bed and did a slight blending.

This was the remake of a female bobcat catch. I’m guessing this was a Tom cat intensely checking out her residual scent.

We had a 3-dog day today. The freezing drizzle made the roads a little messy but the dogs were running last night. Shane picked up one coyote and I was lucky enough to get two. The first one was a large vocal male that weighed 38 lbs. this is very large compared to most of the Kansas coyotes we’ve trapped. Most are around 25-28 lbs.

Are you dealing with frozen ground? I’m not seeing much snow compared to further north.

For most of the trip the ground was not really frozen. The surface would be in the morning and the sun would warm it up. The past couple of Sadat’s has given it a frozen crust on the surface where there isn’t snow. It’s going to start getting into the 40s again today.

Today we pulled the outlying portions of our line. Shane was able to pick up a couple of dogs on properties we we pulling. They both came from property that hasn’t produced until today.
