Only 2 pics I have. Someone is asking $1000 for it. I have not contacted them or know that I will. Just curious if anything seems odd or out of place with this trap?

I did talk with the gentleman that is selling it this morning. Stated he doesn't believe it's ever been in the ground. It came from his uncles sports store somewhere below Pittsburgh and he has been carrying it around for over 50'years. Bad thing is it has been painted at some point. How bad will paint hurt the value??

In my opinion, the price is a bit too high. But I could mistake, I know Newhouse bear trap prices have gone up quite a bit in the past few years.

A diehard trap collector will be bothered by the paint. Won’t be that big of a deal to some folks.

$500.00 is a heck of a deal. You now own a very nice older bear trap. Good job!!

Actually my dad owns it. He beat me to it with both of us unaware the other was looking. Wissmiss, leave paint on it or remove? You want to give an estimate as it is now?

If it was mine, I would leave the paint on it. Leave it just the way it is, except for maybe a bath in warm water and soap.

In time, some of the paint might wear off.

I have removed old paint from collectable traps with easy off oven cleaner with no damage to the patina. I just sprayed it on and it just runs off. Wipe with a rag. A soft bristle tooth brush is great for the tight spots. However Iike it just as it is. Nice Trap.
