My wife's nephew was bring his son home from his 12th birthday party in Rochester, hit ice and rolled his truck several times.
Dericks younger brother was following behind. Both had belts on, young boy got stiches and fractured hand.
Derick got thrown from the truck, broke seven ribs, slight punctures to lungs, broken sternum, two or three mid to low back vertibre, had 3 disks fused, tubes in chest and back, in a lot of pain.
Hope he recovers quickly. He can move legs, that's good

He probably was thrown from the vehicle because he wasn't wearing his seat belt.

Hope everybody recovers but honestly, he didn't have his seatbelt on if he was ejected and injured so badly. Slim chance, but very highly improbable.

That happened to me in an 05 Tundra. Sudden ice, slid onto a windrow of ice on the shoulder. Did a full gainer, landed on the wheels. I got out, saw a spot that wasn't dented. Kicked it to finish the job.

News said both were wearing the belt.
His mom saw our friend die in roll over when we were 18-19
He's lucky he didn't get paralyzed
Thanks for prayers, my wife put it up on Vikings site, lots of prayers there! Skol!
He's in a lot of pain

I put a a new 2008 chevy 2500 onto its roof trying to miss a sliding triaxle coal truck sliding down an icy road. One thing you take away from that experience......everything in the cab, from binoculars to a thermos bottle, turn into projectiles and are gonna hit you.

When the state police got there, a dozen of us flipped it onto it’s side and back onto its wheels. Let the fluids settle, and I drove it away.

Glad to hear all survived , best luck on recovery on injuries.

To others , yes , it is very possible to be thrown from a crash even with seat belt on. This is why professional racers use things like a 5 point safety harness. Slipping out of a normal seat belt is more common than you would think in a roll over. I've seen this as a firefighter who has seen some nasty MVA's ( Motor Vehicle Accidents) have been to fatal ones too. I've also seen motorcycle accidents where the helmet came clear off the riders head.

Best wishes to those affected , hope for speedy recovery.
