Another good day. I caught 6 but I had one of the more unusual catches today then I have had in a long time. I am using boxes with KORO rodent traps and the box is just big enough to fit the trap. I have been experimenting with the trigger to try and get them into the trap a little farther before they trigger it. I walked up to a set today and there is a big beautiful civet sticking out apparently dead. It was very far into the trap and did not look like it had moved a bit after being struck. My usual routine is to flip the box over and undo the wire holding the trap in so I can pull trap and all out. I did this and wait a minute something is happening. I jumped back thinking the civet was still alive and fixing to give me both barrels but no. Definitely something moving around in there. Upon closer inspection he really was dead but there was a surprise farther into the trap. Apparently a small civet went in and got past the trigger then the big guy came in and got caught blocking the door for the first one in so I had a live one in the box ahead of the dead one in the door.

Yep. One on the far right was the live one. Far left was the one in the trap.

What trap do you use a 110, 120, or 220? I don't really know large a civet is compared to a regular skunk. We don't have them around here. Also do they spray when the trap closes on them, like a regular skunk usually does?

Garry- My preferred trap would be a 120 but they are illegal here along with all other good traps. We can use cage traps and after a two year struggle with F&W we can now use "common rat and mouse traps". The KORO rodent is a rat trap so I am trying to make it work. They are plenty strong but a little small so you have to set them in such a way to get them in the trap a little farther then normal. They weigh about a pound and a half up to 2 1/2 pounds. 10 to 12 inches long nose to base of tail. Here's a picture of my friend in a vest out of them.

Thank you for the info and photos. I am old but still like learning about other species we don't have.

What are the pelts worth? are they common over most of your state? They are common in W WA and W OR in heavily forested areas. Rare east of the Cascade crest. The better ones I sell for Taxidermy and get $40 for. The ones that won't make taxidermy I generally get $20. If you send to fur auction the price varies but without the feet more like $10 or $12. Market for the glands too. The fuller glands are worth $4 or $5. I usually throw in some of the flatter sacks for free when I sell them so nothing for them. Skulls I ask $3 for. It all adds up.

It is good that you are pleased with the Koro rodent trap. Awsume catches. They are a good trap although they are not quite big enough. If they were bigger though we would not be able to use them. Under other circumstances I would go up to the large rodent. If you ever want to use them clip the cable off. You can't trust it. Some of our guys are using them successfully for marten. One guy is trying them for mountain beaver and I have some pictures of some with moles in them. Probably a lot of applications but it takes some experimentation to see how to use them.

You’re from Washington State? Like the university? I’m confused by your location. Maybe you mean the State of Washington. AKA Washington since there is only one state called Washington.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.
