Just returned from selling some green beaver to Mark Boardman,

Seneca Fur & Supply on his Fur Pickup Route thru Northern New York

at the Mexico Exit #35, I-81 & State Route #104 at the Maple View truck stop.

Had a run of 15 unusually small beaver.

Prices as follows:

1 @ $12.00

2 @ $10.00

5 @ $8.00

3 @ $5.00

2 @ $3.00

2 @ $1.00

$95.00 Total

$6.33 average.

I was good with that as no put-up necessary and gained some freezer space.

will sell skulls later for $3.00 each
will sell tails later for $3.00 each
Castor should sell later at @ $70.00+ a pound

That's what happened with my few beavers.

Walleyed, do you sell the tails unprocessed as well ?

I still think it stinks that FHA, Groney, And Seneca all scheduled their NY routes on the same days.

Sent my fur to FHA yesterday, way more trappers at my pickup point than in the past. Many former NAFA suppliers and first time FHA suppliers

Has anyone ever just boned out beaver meat and offered it for sale by the lb on craigslist? I'm thinking people who are paying big bucks for real meat dog food might fork over some good dough.

I have thought about doing it here in my area but in liberal Eugene, Oregon I might get more crank calls than what its worth from the do-gooders.

Not bad considering the TOTAL value as listed. With the pelt money ya can buy 3 1/2 MB 750’s.
lol

I sell the tails raw & fresh frozen on the trap shed or classified ads

on other trapping forums.

Beaver tails are used for tail leather or beaver tail oil when rendered down.

There does seem to be a traffic jam of fur route pickups this year, with FHA,

Groenwold, and Seneca fur & Supply all competing for a piece of the NAFA Corpse

like Cayutes over a roadkilled deer carcass, LOL !!! laugh

Just the capitalist free market at work in America.

I'll be dropping off some fur with the groeny rat wagon in Adams, N.Y. on Thursday as well.

I'll also be at The Herkimer Auction on February 1st to spread my meager catch around.

I'll just point out that I don't think those MB-750's are N.Y. legal by a 1/4" inch.

I'm a cheapskate and will instead probably go with the DUKE 750's or whatever they are called. LOL

I'll use the savings to have inside laminations thrown on them by Nightstalker Tom. laugh

Yep, maximum legal jaw spread in NYS is 7 1/4" inches if they are used (In water).

I guess I've assumed that the model MB-750 = 7.50" inches.

Never bought any for that reason, but I'm also not a big fan of large coil springs.

I like Blake & Lamb # 44 long springs (also inside laminated) for Beaver myself.

P.S.

Just checked the MTP website and the INSIDE jaw spread of the regular MB-750

is actually 7 1/6th" inches

so yes it is legal (in water) in NYS.

Those 44’s would be nice. When using other than body grippers I always target front foot only.
The beauty of outdoor activities we always can do what we choose.

I had a running order for beaver meat from a border collie breeder who fed raw. $5/gutted beaver. She said they loved the beaver hind feet,a great chew toy!

Youre probably right on crank calls from your part of the country....posted a coyote double catch video on an Oregon beaver group....think there are more anti's on that group than a Peta site

I have a friend that runs dog sled teams. When she heard I was trying to learn how to trap, she made sure that I knew that she'd take any beaver meat she could get her hands on. Apparently that's a huge thing in the dog sledding world.
