Ok so I'm doing some writing in the subject and I've broken down alot of the more complicated stuff such as hanging ratios and such. Anyhow the one ting I'm really having trouble with right now is determining how my meshes to use per tie when rigging the netting to the lines.
The calculations I'm using right now is basically you pick how many meshes per tie you want to use and start plugging numbers. Ive just been using 10 as a constant .My question is there any advantages using more or less neshes per tie? Only thing I can think of is more me she per tie will equal a longer tie so less knots . Nut seems that could lead to problems down the line.

Anyhow anyone have any experience rigging nets ?
Thanks !
God Bless !

Hey wolf, I mainly tie on the Half, Smaller mesh like 3.25 or so I would usually swing 4 meshes, so take your 4 meshes of what ever size your using add them all together and divide it by half and that will be your gauge. You can stretch your gauge up to a inch but it will not be as fishy. Your ties can have more or less meshes, longer ties have more chance to have a cork fall through the tie and tangle.

And/or a fish that gets caught near the surface can go through the hanging and make a time consuming picking process.

X2 what pine doggin said.

I hang on a half as well, for perch , bunker, spot and striped bass. Have experimented hanging on a third, but I didn’t think they fished as well or shaked as good. Short ties with tight knots, double back on your floats.

On large mesh you can go an extra mesh per tie

I used 5” and 6” mesh or 10”/12” depending on where your from. This mesh was for paddlefish. When using.177 mesh I would go one or two mesh extra per tie. On .139 I would go 2 or 3 extra mesh per tie. I used the 139 during winter when paddlefish were less likely to fight. The smaller diameter mesh was softer.
In my earlier days I would use even more extra mesh per tie but after unwrapping suit case fish I learned more is not always better.
Asian carp tore the 139 up when the water warmed up. Then I would go 177 or larger. I was not a fan of anything larger than 177 for paddlefish.
