So, we dye and wax the traps. What about the trap pan covers? I’m asking because I think I’m getting a few dig ups from the trap pan covers. Thanks!

I like using polyfill instead of a pan cover. I believe most dig ups are due to coons, etc and not Odor problems unless lure/bait has been dropped on top. Many times I have coons drag the whole trap out of the bed without setting it off.

Cut up a roll 6 inches wide and staple them together in 6 layers and cut out a cardboard template then sit watching TV and cut out a few hundred, wash and air dry.

I buy either stiff aluminum or galvanized steel screen. Take them out of bags they come in. Cut to fit styles of traps I use. Put back in bags. Set over pan but under jaws. Then use grass to cover at sets. Most of my sets are pipe dream sets. A few get pawed off but very few.

I’m convinced we give too much credit to animal intelligence. You don’t have to dye and hot wax traps. I spray paint and dip in full metal jacket. You also don’t have to wrap yourself in Kevlar to keep your scent away from trap sites.

Take a deep breath. Be reasonably clean with what you do. And don’t over analyze !!!

Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. But what do I use to wash the trap pan covers to leave no scent?

Hot water would be my choice.

Loose dirt or covering is most often the cause of a dig up.

Wish I had more time to trap....
