I've had shingles twice. After the first time I got the first vaccine, Zostavax, but that didn't keep me from getting them again. Shingles for me was much more itchy than painfull, but the threat of getting it in one or both eyes, a medical emergency due to the potential for it to blind you, is reason enough to get the new vaccine. Zostavax was something like 60% effective whereas the new vaccine, Shingrix, is said to be over 90% effective. Shingrix is two shots with the 2nd administered 2 to 6 months after the first. I had a very mild reaction to the first shot. Sore arm and a bit of the chills the evening of the shot. With the second shot I felt bad for a couple of days. Nothing too bad but I didn't do much but read and sleep for 2 days. That's OK, it's the best indication that your body is reacting properly to the vaccine. Just plan for it. My wife just got the 1st shot last week and felt poorly (flu like) for a couple of days. Your arm will hurt and the arm pain tracks with any other symptoms.

I had both sets of shots and believe me, the sore shoulder is nothing compared to the Shingles rash.
